Tesco cleaner fired over 20p

Tesco are being stupid.
I mean, firing a cleaning person over a 20p coin is stupid.

If you read the entire story, there is a difference in what happened.

He says he found the coin on the floor. The company said he found it on a checkstand.
Now, granted - if his version is true - he shouldn't of been fired or suspended.
If the company is true, then a punishment is due.

Small change on the floor is okay to pick up. Its when its taken from the area around the checkstand ( or on the checkstand ) that will get you in trouble.

If the cleaner is telling the truth then I think Tesco are a bit stupid... Still it's not that hard to get a job as a cleaner somewhere else though is it?

If it's anything like the Tesco near me, there will be security cameras everywhere so they'll know exactly what was going on.

It is a flimsy reason to suspend anyone. If they had to check the honesty of their employees, they could have kept a much bigger sum there. Can't think why a company which deals in lots of cash is worried about such a tiny sum.
