What is the Purpose of a Forum

It makes you wonder why soo many people are adding Forum to thier sites... They are to discuss most often but now people are using them to keep in touch... Makes me wonder...

So here is a Question to you... What do you use your forum for?

I use mine for Users being able to Upload files and images more easier and myself being able to view them too!

I would put a forum on my site to keep the community active. A nice place to hang out is always a good thing on a site (like the x10 forums).

I _used_ to have one because I was working on migrating an older forum to the new one.

That promptly fell to pieces when we discovered that the crap-host the other one is on will not let us get a mysql backup without paying $20 to get the priority service (wtf, it didn't even cost me $20 to get static paid at x10 WITH A 1 YEAR DOMAIN!).


But I use that one mostly because my friends are on it, and we all have really messed up hours (barring PARTY NIGHTS!), so we use that when we're not on instant messenger. Works great; leave a message and you tend to get a few replies at the VERY least



If I put one on my current site though I'd probably try migrating as much over from the older forum as possible, then use it as feedback on the site and the standard "hey whats goin' down" forum. To be honest though, I am NOT paying $20 to get a database backup that I might not be able to convert over to SMF, so it'll likely just stay where it's at until the craphost it's located on implodes from lack of funding.

Most of the forums I post on are used to discuss a specific topics. For example, many people like posting on forums about specific computer and video games.

i got a forum to start a community and stuff and to let users know of updates and stuff

I installed a forum to have users advertise their clan, post news about whats happening in the game, make announcements of the changes I made to the website and general discussion.
