    the amazing mall race

during one of my many brainstorming sessions at four in the morning after having a disturbing dream (or I was playing COD 4) I had an idea for a mall race, it would be set up like this:
the winner gets itunes gift cards
there is a note on a computer in a dell or apple kiosk telling people of the race and pointing to the first clue which is hidden somewhere in the mall, this clue points to the next one and so on until they find the itunes gift cards. All this would be filmed and posted on youtube. It would be even cooler to get a frapper map going and do this across the country and synchronis times/days. It could get interesting. Just thought I'd share a cool idea. If you actually set this up, let me know how it turns out.

Only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it'd be posted in a mall - there's a fairly decent chance someone could stumble upon one of the clues in the game and either pick up from there, or destroy the clue (for instance if it's something to do with something thats on display, but someone takes the display model to go purchase it, or moves it, etc.).

Would be a pretty good idea if you could find a way to make the clues subtle enough to not be noticed by anyone who didn't find the first clue, obvious enough that the people in the game would know it's what they're looking for, and most importantly the clue can't be something that can be destroyed or altered by legit customers - what game is playing in a game system for instance since it's fairly easy to change those out, same goes for what song is playing at the music shop.

I don't think I'd wanna do it at our mall here though; the security guards are jerks.

Sounds like a neat idea, but the YouTube thing might be a problem (you might need to get permission for that one). Still, I'd like to try that, it'd be interesting to see how it would turn out!

Permission's easy actually - have the system that gives the first clue be a signup based system with a short TOS that says you may be video taped and have the action posted on YouTube.

As for the guys who aren't involved officially...Well there's ways to blur the video in post

Theres always a way around it, the trick with that short TOS is it has to be short - if it's a 10 page TOS like you get on a real gameshow, the people aren't going to stick around when they're shopping for the day, ya know? They'll move on. It's gotta be like 4 main rules or something:

    1) Don't do anything illegal.
    2) Don't ask questions from people in the mall - they won't know what you're talking about.
    3) You may be videotaped, and the resulting footage may end up on youtube - if you don't wish to be involved, you may turn back now, no hard feelings.
    4) DON'T DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL.

Needs work I know, but that's actually possible the more you look at it

That's shaping up to be pretty good, but I think you should also add, "Don't try and tamper with this or any clues" ;)

    Re: the amazing mall race

thanks for the suggestions, Ill let you know if I set this up... I was thinking of hiding the clues undere clothes racks or unmovable things which probably wont be moved in the few hours of gameplay, or even with a clerk behind the register if theyr shift is long enough. But yea if the security guards are jerks, all the more fun, the contestants have to dodge security lol :P jk but yea I think Ill do this, and the contestants can ask to be removed from the video if they dont want to be....
