1. To have users keep updated on News & Announcements when x10 has issues that may need users to know something is wrong ( so people aren't logging in saying "What is wrong?"
2. We're a community forum. We like to see our users visit from time to time.
3. To respond to your actual subject heading, we don't require posting, just logging in.
It's as easy as setting the forums as a second homepage (in another tab) and have auto-login turned on.![]()
Left.
All you have to do is log in every 2 weeks, is that too much to ask, really? We don't ask you to post, or anything else. Just log in.

I had no idea you could set a second homepage, thanks for pointing that out alexandgruntz. I can't seem to figure out how it's done, though.

Hi,
Requiring users to log in to the forums every so often allows several things:
1) x10Hosting can track and terminate inactive accounts.
2) The community actually talks (in a way) to each other. It's friendly :D
3) As above, it allows them to keep everyone up to date on the news.
4) Easy support that everybody can read through if they have the same problem.
A pretty sensible idea, eh?
Luke.
When I joined I thought it was a daft idea too but actually its quite sensible, although I don't post much I do find what other people say useful - when I've had a problem doing something every time a quick forum search has revealed someone else posting the answer from when they had the same problem.
If any find difficult in visiting the forum on a regular basis, please go for paid hosting.Paid hosters need not visit the forum unless they have an issue.
It's really REALLY quite simple,
It is the EASIEST possible way to make sure you are using your web hosting. If you can't find the time to log into the forums here once every 2 weeks then you are probably not paying enough attention to your hosting account either. Meaning x10 could give someone else an account instead of you, and that person may actually use it.

I think the original intent for the 2 weeks login requirement when it started was that so that important news and announcements can be passed to each user. With things changing every other day here, I'm not sure if that's possible anymore.
I used to be more active in this forum, but college work, internship as a student-teacher in high school and a side dose of volunteer consumer advocacy/unofficial credit counseling is quite time consuming.
So for me, I'm treating the two week login requirement just like way television stations seem to handle the mandatory on-the-hour station ID requirements nowadays. A quick 5-second fade in and out at the lower right hand corner LOL. Worth it to maintain my start page (the hell with bookmarks on every browser!)
