    Internet Explorer 8 and PMOGS

So I just found out a couple of days ago that the IE8 beta 1 has launched. A computer wasn't readily available at thtat moment so I had to wait until today to download the beta.... So a little background here (If im typing wierd its cuz of jet lag from flying in from Milan Italy) on IE8... Its supposedly standards based with the standards mode enabled by default and compatability modes accessible easily. So I dl'd it installed it restarted and was ready to surf in fully standards complaint glory. So I run through the process of setting up my settings (default search provider) with some new settings thrown in which allow for"activites" which I will explain later.... So I finished setting up and one link lead to another and soon I was thrown onto a microsoft page. Now I would like anyother reasonably sane person after flying for 11 hrs and crossing countless date lines and loosing their luggage to expect that a microsoft page would have been standards compliant, esspecially to show off IE 8. But nope, most things on that certain page where not aligned properly. I visited a few other sites with the same results. BUt there was hope. I could turn of standards mode and what do you know everything worked fine. Now for the cool features. First there are activites which allow you to highlight a piece of text and then instantly search define map or otherwise find out more info on that word or phrase. Also they threw in some cool css and html editing capabilites and other developer tools which I havn't gotten a chance to play with yet. In short IE 8 is looking extremely promising, may even top FF3. To get the beta go to www.msdn.com and search for IE8 beta 1. WARNING it will override (i could think of the techical term but again jet lag) IE7 so youll have to uninstall it to go back (I would personally keep the beta for a while). My first impressions: 8/10

Now for PMOGS or PAssively multiplayer online games (see PMOG.org). A pmog is essentially a little toolbar (probably not spyware since the author of pmog was interviewed for wierd) that runs while you surf. As you surf you can lay down "traps" on a website and when another pmog user goes accross that site he is hit by that trap giving you currency called data points. you can ally other friends and you also have ways to create quests for other users and give the supplies etc. It sound very interesting and I highly recomend you take a look at it.

Sorry for the bad english, im jet lagged like crazy.
Enjoy and write back w/ your epxeriences.

Re: Internet Explorer 8 and PMOGS

    Let me invoke history:

    1) I can't imagine how Microsoft will bumble their next version of Internet Explorer even with good intentions. It's their passion. I consider myself unfortunate enough to have been with them since IE3.

IE7 was an improvement over IE6 (as opposed to IE6 and IE5 which I thought had very little to say for itself).

Honestly, I'm glad Microsoft's web browser has some form of competition now (via Firefox, Opera and countless others). I remember being sad when Netscape (the only viable contender at one point) was virtually abandoned with the crappy IE6 holding virtually complete dominance.

    2) PMOG sounds somewhat reminiscent to all those programs in the height of the dot-com boom. And as a caveat emptor, just because the author was interviewed by Wired doesn't mean it's completely legit. Publications have interviewed several authors of popular programs, which several years after the fact, it is discovered that they have incorporated some of the sleaziest functions into their software.

I'll wait for IE8 to be released final before I use it! No beta on that one!

@ tittat IE 8 essentially is as fast as IE 7 (i dont know specifics but I havn't noticed a slowdown atall).
@ azntechguy: I dont think they will bumble this one. IE 7 wasn't a bumble at all and actually I prefered it over FF b/c of how it actually was as secure or more so than FF was (case in point on default settings IE 7 didn't get the animated cursor virius while FF and other browsers did) and because how much more sleek the user interface and experience was. IE 8 is really promising and (this is at any readers of this post past or present) you should really download it and try it for yourself before criticizing....
    Note:
I have used the developer tool and already they have helped me finish a web design quickly... I like the feature where it allows you to click on a part (such as a link or a header) on any website and show you what styles are applied to it and allow you to turn the style on and off to see what it does....

Heh I haven't upgraded IE6, primarily because I use Firefox, and any further addition to IE would just be a waste of space.

Almost forgot to mention that it's extremely ugly too!

okay that explains why you h8 IE... IE 6 was the worst. At least try IE 7 if not 8 if nothing else to see how microsoft has improved (I assume your saying 6 is extremely ugly here)... I agree IE 6 is the worst browser possible ever =). Again just try and keep an open mind about new stuff...
