    Mind mapping open source software

    Hi,

Has anyone come across any open source mind mapping software that actually works?

The technique was i think invented by Tony Buzan and covered in several series for the BBC and in some books.

The idea is great and it works well on paper, but I haven't come across software that handles anything other than a hierarchically structured diagram.

For example in hand drawn diagrams it is very useful to connect nodes on opposite side of a diagram as you perceive influences and connections. I have not seen much software to ro this.

Open source,m or to be more specific, free , software would be nice

    Best regards

That was like the second result in a google search :P

There's 4 open-source projects listed there -- 2 in java, 1 in ruby, and 1 in php. From the screenshots, it looks like at least WikkaWiki and VUE go beyond purely hierarchical diagrams.

I've used this successfully in the past: http://www.bubbl.us/

Web based, and free. Plus it's easy to use and looks nice.
The physics is theoretical but the fun is real.

Looks good! Do you then have an option to save the flash output as, say, a png file?
