Re: Do's and Don't on Internet...

One thing I should also add is to always have anti-virus and anti-spy software installed that is updated (Avast! Anti-Virus and Spybot are the best free software to use for most people). Also, never participate in any kind of botnet as well as botnets are used by hackers to DDoS websites and more. Also, never hand out your IP address to unknowing sources. Even though every website logs IPs, only administration of the sites can see it unless it's a site like Wikipedia where no one knows who you are. Hackers and idiots can get your IP and hack your computer, or they can DDoS your connection. All of the bads I mentioned are good for slowing the internet down a bit.

Do click on Goodle ads every now and then. I know that sounds bad but you wouldnt believe how many site rely on ad clicks for revenue. Just a click then click another link from there and your helping keep your favorite sites open, who knows you might find something you like. I have found no-end of new online games through this.

Don't download anything with the words 'crack' in it, typically used for bypassing a softwares activation.
All cracks are is viruses, never trust them.

Actually it IS true.. shouldn't say it if you never tried it...
Try going to ANY website that relates to cracking software.. and download the 'crack program' for it.. and watch your anti-virus come up saying that file you downloaded is a virus.

Cracks always contain viruses regardless on what hacker did it. The hacker wants to see who installed it and I think also makes the piece of software not updatable, and of course want to screw up your computer in the process. It may not be the kind of virus that everyone thinks about, but anti-virus softwares are right.

    True..
Why waste time downloading software cracks..
Just go and buy the full version, or at the very least get a product code from a friend (NOT a crack program)..
I gave one of my friends a copy of my XP once, XP Media Center.. All I did was give them my product code for it and it was fully Genuine and Activated.
Just NEVER register Windows when you do this... (That will permanently de-activate the product key).. Done this several times.. So I know

For me, when I buy my software, it's usually game that I've gotten via Steam or Direct2Drive.com (yes, all of the games I have are all internet downloads. None of my games are on physical media, but are tied to my accounts for the sites I visit). As for software for things like Photoshop and the like, if there is an open source alternative, no matter how crummy or lame it is, if it gets the job done I download and use it. If there's no alternative to the software I want, I think about the cost to usage I'll be paying for it and decide if it's worth it. As for Windows, the only time I will EVER pop my Windows DVD into another computer would be if I'm trying to boot their PC up because of a problem where it won't start normally, as my Windows Vista install is licensed to my gaming computer and I don't feel like messing it up.

Also, did I mention it's also not a good idea to threaten to hack or DDoS a site? That is actually a federal Internet Crime in the US for as far as I know and you can pay up big dollars for that stuff. So that if course is something you should NOT do on the internet.
