Quiet funny they launched Gmail on 1 April 2004. But you needed then a invitation. The timeline is interesting.

But i don't know for sure when i got gmail. (but it was in the time that you needed to be invited.)

My uncle worked at google when gmail started. and when you got an invitation for gmail, you felt speciall :]
