Usually people in school, or have a college email or something along those lines can get an Educational Discount.
Also, I would try shopping around, I know there are some websites that sell these products at a discount.

Yeah try to find someone in college. Here at UT, I can get XP for $20-30 bucks
You could try eBay but there might be some EULA/legal issues and potential bootlegs

The best way to legally acquire software for absolutely nothing is to use open source software in place of the commercial software. There are many programs that are just as good and often better than their commercial counterparts available to the public, online, for free. some examples would be open office (like word and office but better), foxit reader, Apache, gimp(for photo editing), and many others, just google for it.
