Question Create your own domain....no need to pay.

Okay the title is not the way this question of mine is related to.

I have been doing some ready and have found how to host my own site, on my own computer, using my IP Address and dynamic dns from a specific provider.

I am wondering this now, when I choose how I want my domain name to display other then those bunch of numbers which are hard for people to remember,

Can I just create a domain like that, and have it hosted on x10hosting's free or paid servers? Without having to pay for the domain name?....(the domain leads people to my ip address leading people to my site....

    my question is, ...

Is there a way to revert where it leads and have my site hosted on my x10hosting account? I am thinking this is a no, but please do try to help me out a little.

Thankyou for reading this, hope you reply soon,

    I'm confused.

Do you want an IP address of your home server to have a domain name? If so, you can signup for a free dynamic dns at DYNDNS.

I use it on my Pentium 1 home server.

I guess what I was trying to say was not clear at all, sorry for that.

What I wanted was to get a domain name from the free dynamic dns at DYNDNS you were referring to, and use that as my domain name on my x10hosting account.

Will this work? (If it did work, I beleive everyone would have their own domain name by now, using these dynamic dns providers out there.

Thankyou for you help if you reply, and thank you for the time you may have put to read this post.

I honestly don't see the point. You could register the domain the domain with DYNDNS, then use your computer as a host.

But there is no way to get a free domain like this, you must register it with someone.

I was trying to get a free domain, that was one of the options they offered at DYNDNS, and have it hosted by x10 but I guess it won't work.

Thanks for the help and information.

Re: Create your own domain....no need to pay.

I am guessing what you are saying is if you can get a free .com name from hosting a domain on your computer, the answer is yes. You can create the same service that Co.cc is doing, with a .com domain, hosted from your computer and link it through DNS. However, space and bandwidth limitations are the same from X10. If you were asking if you can host a domain from your computer, on X10 then no, that is not possible. Creating a domain that is completely yours, with no linking to x10 is also easy to do, but what fun is that??
