www. redirection?

Hi-

I have an existing site, www.colonialsense.com. I moved here from another free hosting service & changed the DNS.

However, x10 does not seem to allow the www. prefix, which is what all links & promotional material have listed. in short, currently http://www.colonialsense.com does NOT work, but http://colonialsense does...

Anybody know of a way to either a) change my x10 account to accept the www. or b) set up a redirect so that http://www.colonialsense.com would now point to http://colonialsense.com?

Any (quick!) assistance appreciated!

have you used the park domain for the site adress correctly? this is just a though, but i know as well that takes a few hours for the DNS be updated at the world wide web

Tried that -- it won't let me enter a domain that starts with www. either...

however, I've been digging around, and came up with a doc from a non-www group (they advocate doing away with www. entirely) that puts the problem on x10's server configuration (they seem to have a "Class C config):

Q: What constitutes a Fail result?

A: Traffic to example.net is either blocked or redirected to a different domain. The purpose of no-www is to advocate the use of domains with optional or no www subdomain.

Q: What is Class A?

A: This is the most common no-www compliance level. With class A domains, example.net and www.example.net are both valid methods of reaching this website. Many servers default to this.

Q: What is Class B?

A: Class B is currently the optimal no-www compliance level. This classification helps remind users that, while the www subdomain is accepted, it is not necessary. In Class B, www.example.net is a valid address, but it redirects all traffic to example.net.

Q: What is Class C?

A: Class C is the most stringent compliance level. According to no-www, www.example.net is an invalid subdomain. All traffic must go to example.net in order to view the site. Very few sites currently hold this classification, partially because many internet users are not yet savvy enough to drop the www every time. For that reason, this classification is not recommended for sites that serve the general public.

Q: Why are some domains N/A?

A: The no-www standard does not apply to certain domains. In these instances, traffic to example.net may be directed to a different server or contain different content than the www. version.

Q: How can I become Class B?

A: It's a fairly simple process, actually. Create a file called .htaccess and paste the following lines, changing the domain name to match that of your site:

as long as you configured the domain correctly at your registrar, it should work both with and without www.

However it does seem to me that colonialsense.se is redirected to www.colonialsense.se, which does not work.

What puzzles me is that when I try to ping the domain in order to check if it is pointed to us or not, I get a non-existent domain response.

Site was initiated through register.com. I gave them the DNS of my old host & everything worked fine; today, after I set up my account here, I gave them x10's DNS...haven't messed with anything else....

er, that should be colonialsense.COM not .SE...that matters, right?

The server name with the "www." opens for me. I'm currently getting "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/csense/public_html/PHP/AdServer.php on line 43" for both domains, but not when I first tried it a few minutes ago. Flush your DNS cache and try again.
