GD won't work?

For some reason my GD library won't work?

This is the code in my php file

$im = @imagecreate(110, 20)
    or die("Cannot Initialize new GD image stream");
$background_color = imagecolorallocate($im, 0, 0, 0);
$text_color = imagecolorallocate($im, 233, 14, 91);
imagestring($im, 1, 5, 5,  "A Simple Text String", $text_color);
imagepng($im);
imagedestroy($im);
?>

When I view the php file all I get is a broken image with the red cross thingy?

I'm using the intermediate php configuration btw.

Please Help!

I've copied this snippet from the PHP.net website btw.

I'm eventually gonna learn how to make it into a CAPTCHA but I can't even create a simple image like this so there's no way im gonna be able to make a CAPTCHA. :dunno:
