    You can only send for U.S. phone numbers at the moment. You need to go into Gmail settings, Labs, then enable SMS. Then, as far as I know, you send it from within Gmail chat.

    Your best place for proper info is in Gmail's own Help page, not here. This section is for programming help.

    Well I was able to send and receive sms through normal email messages a long time ago... in Canada.
