OK, I've installed phpbb3 before elsewhere and it was pretty simple. All that was needed after uploading the install is to browse to http://yoursite/phpbb3/install/ (path to where the install dir is on your site.)
When I do that here, I get an error.
The path I'm using is upstatenyfishing.x10hosting.com/phpbb3/install/ what am I doing wrong? uploaded the phpbb folder to the root .

When I go to
upstatenyfishing.x10hosting.com/phpbb3/install
I get a 404 File Not Found
When I go to
upstatenyfishing.x10hosting.com/
it shows the bare minimum, with no phpbb3 folder at all.
Check FileManager, I think you installed phpbb into an incorrect location. It should be in public_html or a subdirectory of public_html.

Ony files/folders in the public_html fiolder are accessible on the web. Any other file/folder cannot be browsed to from the web.

That was the problem. I saw the directory structure and was wondering about where the service would point. Anyhow, I moved the files into public_html and the install went fine.
