Theirs a lot of steps in doing that.
Im around 10 Steps ahead of you! Anyway, First create your site, add a WHOIS, Then ask them to Purchase a domain. Say thy are 3.50 you charge 4.00 Or so One.

Am following this discussion thats for sure. Anyway, I would give you a in road in the linux side. If you want seriously independent domain registration, get an internet connection e.g ADSL. On linux, configure some domain translation software called bind (google search it for more). After that, you will be a registrar.
