Question Web Hosting - On Linux

Ok, i have a server but im not sure which linux to put on it.
Theres so many, i tryed a few (freebsd and red hat) but i couldnt install them, iv installed xp, 2000, 98 etc thousands of times, but the only linux that was working for me is linuxxpdesktop2006, but it isnt that good.

What linux is these servers running on, and is there a tut to install them.
I would of stayed with windows server 2003, but cpanel would not work with it. as its only linux (i cant wait till the window version is relesed)

I was even thinking of running vmware on win2003 and just have my hosting stuff on that linux. (google it if you dont know what vmware is)

    thanks,

I've seen a thread on some Linux website and I'm just about 100% positive that Red Hat was the best pick.

I would recomend searching the web and reading some reviews
