    Question Resealling Hosting Accounts

Hi guys, i was looking around at some prices for resealling web accounts.
I found a few cheap ones, that look really good, they all come with cpanel etc.
I was thinking of starting a small web hosting company, and i have my own dell server.
I i have a domain name, can i rerect it to my server, then have a domain name for my clients that uses the servers own user space.

    http://www.mdwebhosting.com.au/resellerhosting/linux/
Corey how does your system work, i know that you have your own server, so how about the domain names and cpanel etc.

Can i use my sever, use a domain name and sell accouts to people and make a domain name for them to, how would cpanel work with this.
    Thanks heaps
    cya

well you'll first need a T1 line or greater connection to "host" sites.

second of course is the server, we currently have 3 servers from theplanet (www.theplanet.com) and you can get CPanel/WHM and that takes care of all the domains.

the linux servers are the only ones with CPanel/WHM.

you could use bind or the windows equivelant to set nameservers to your own server for your domain to point to.

again i would either buy resellers or buy a dedicated server from someplace like theplanet, if you look under server matrix they have some 100-200/mo servers. (great connection and uptime too )

    Re: Resealling Hosting Accounts

Iam getting T1 soon, but over $100\m is a bit to much, But can i use my own server and my own internet connection and still host? cpanel is hard to install but i think the cpanel tech team can do it. So how about the domains, can i have a main own and make subdomains of it?
and also have domains that connect to my server, easyery?

    thanks

actually, cpanel is quite easy to install, really all you need to do is install a bare linux distrobution (such as FC5, RHE 3,4, FreeBSD, or others) and then you run the cpanel setup in your console. the setup then checks your system downloads and installs the required files for WHM/CPanel.

throught cpanel/whm you can make your servers main domain it and then user cpanel and whm to make subdomains off of it.

as for the domains in general, the CPanel/WHM install will install BIND which creates nameservers on your server, so domains can point to the server and the server can send out the information.

    Re: Resealling Hosting Accounts

Ok thanks Jake for the info, i understand much better now.
I might try to install cpanel now, using a live cd of linux, but were do you download it, theres layer 1 and layer 2 and perl .sea and all these others.

Edit: i have my server now running plesk, but i have no domain name to test it out.
Do you have one that ur not using that i could test it with?
Or is it possible to use local host?

    Thanks

    Re: Resealling Hosting Accounts

i dont have a domain personally, maybe someone has a .br they can let you use?

try the free trial of cpanel, download the file once you've installed linux (livecd wont work because it needs the linux filesystem).

You can download a smaller Distro to , like slackware.
The linux you're downloading is probably ubuntu , nd most of the cd's are filled with software crap wich you are not going to use if you just wnt to use the computer as server.

You can download slackware or an old version of debian.
    And install LAMPP (Linux,Apache,MySQL(i),PHP,Perl)
That would take up less then 1 CD.
    Is way more effficient
and Will give you a better feeling about yourself because you did it all by yourself
