Creating FTP Accounts

After I create an account I cannot log in to it, I am recieving an unable to make a conection error. I have tried multiple methods to connect.

try this:
go to ftp.subdomain.x10hosting.com (obviously replace subdomain with urs)
then login with the cpanel username and password.

if you make an account, remember that your username is:
UsernameYouSpecified@Subdomain.x10hosting.com

Well I could log in to my main site but I still couldn't log in to my specific account. All I want is to creat an account that anyone can connect to, so the user can write and read files there but not on my entire site, just in that folder
