there is a problem with the config I think because there are other things in .htaccess not working.

He is. the cPanel password protected directories uses .htaccess/.htpasswd

The "cPanel" password protection works fine with me and doesn't create me a .htaccsess or a .htpasswd... T_T

To keep people from viewing your directories, create a blank index.html file in each directory. That will block out the directory list because anybody who attempts to visit using the web.site/directory/ url will get a blank page instead of a listing of all files.

i think your host disabled .htaccsess and .htpasswd, you should contact your host with the problem.

No .htaccess and .htpassword are not disabled as far as I know.

Except, that is easily bypassed and insecure. Better off password protecting it, either by CPanel or other means.
