instead of using a mod to do it, edit the template file.
If your using advanced plan, edit the footer, and place the ad code at the bottom of it.
If your using the corperate plan, edit the header, and place the ad code at the very top of it.

since your theme is custom theme you have got manual edit the following theme files found in the theme directory;
1. index.template.php
2. BoardIndex.template.php
3. Display.template.php
4. MessageIndex.template.php
the file with the info is the install xml which you can open in or with notepad.
the ads will appear in the default smf theme but not the custom with out the above files being edited.
if you have a problem, you can try visiting http://www.smfhelper.info

my friend said he tried to get the ads on like that but he couldn't figure it out, can someone help?
AS n4tec has stated that because you are using a custom theme those 4 template files must be edited in order for the ad mod to show. If you switch back to the default theme you WILL see the ads you have placed. I wrote out ALL the edits here in this post. THe only 4 you have to do are the 4 template files listed. Because you have it installed all the other edits are done. Check this post for all the template file edits:
