um...so i know the sql database name and i know the user, but what would the data source BE...like if my site is

Data Source?? If you are asking about your MySQL Host, its localhost.

ok so now i need help with....it says on the converting to phpbb3 the source relative to what it is now...which is?

You have to do an installation, not a conversion.

Are you trying to do a conversion from phpBB2 to 3, or a fresh installation? If you can give me server information, I can help with either.

If it's a conversion, then the DB should already be there! I have a lot of fun with projects like these!

Hey,

If you already have a forum and you want to upgrade you choose the upgrade tool. If not, you want to install a new forum read below:

DB NAME: The db you made.
DB USERNAME: The username for your database you assigned to.
DB PASSWORD: The password you chosen.
SERVER HOST: localhost

Thats what your most likely having problems with. Please post if you have anymore questions
