    Lightbulb Content management???

Hi there I have been working on a site called Gaming Goodies ( www.furnaps.com ) and I'm trying to find ways to improve my site.

My site is centered around Video games and offers reviews and previews of Video games aswell as User submitted Video game reviews and Game guides.

Rite now I am doing everything by building new pages for everything using dreamweaver and I have been trying to find ways to simplify the process while making the site more user friendly so they con comment on the reviews and such.

If you take a look at www.ign.com of www.gamespot.com You can see that those sites offer the ability to sign up for the site so you can comment on the articles and such.
I want my site to be more like theres.

Im not sure how they set up there site and I know I cant make it exactly like theres but I need a way to Improve mine.

Im not really sure what the content management scripts are for ( In fantastico on the Cp )

There a a good number of them to choose from and I dont know what exactly you can do with them and how customizable they are.

If someone could take alook at those two sites I posted and then mine and give me some ideas of how I could make mine some what more like theres as far as features and layout please do.

Im not sure if those content management scripts are what I need or not?

Can someone please give me some input?

    Thanks,
    Jeff F.

    Re: Content management???

A content management system (CMS) is a system used to manage the content of a Web site easily and affortleesly. Most of them are powered with inbuilt WYSIWYG.
I personally use e107.Its a good CMS which is on a constant development. Many plugins are available for enhancements.

Im not sure if those content management scripts are what I need or not?
Content managements are what you really need in this case....

There is a good article to help you pick the right content management system for you site.
    http://www.packtpub.com/article/how_...agement_system

you can create sites like www.ign.com of www.gamespot.com by using a CMS.The login system, commenting everything is in-built with in a CMS.

If you need any help regarding the installation of e107, i am here to help you.But e107 is not listed on fantastico on the Cp .You need to download it from the official site e107.org

Remember every CMS have its abilities and disabilities.Security is always an issue.Be very careful before selecting one.
read as many articles about the CMS which you wish to install.

    Re: Content management???

Well some people prefer using Content Management scripts and some don't. Content Management Scripts (CMS) is often used for sites who have multiple admins/editors changing the content on the site. It is also used as a way to quickly change that site's template throughout the site without having to edit every single page one by one (the sidebars/nav bars for examples) the only cons to CMS are that their are so many of them it might be hard for you to decide one, because I can assure you if you have a complex website no CMS is going to satisfy all your needs. And leaning the cms (Learning Curve) may be a little hard too depending on the CMS, and skinning and a bunch of different factors you must learn when you use a CMS.

So CMS is basically takes a long time to setup, but if you want to change things like the navbar it's easier.

While hand written sites are easy to set up, but if you want to change the nav bar you have to change every single file.
