I have done that previously in my site. Its easy. You need to check whether a particular port is open or closed. then you are posting the result back.

kkenny - The ports are as follows:

Port 21 FTP
Port 22 SSH
Port 53 DNS
Port 80 HTTP
Port 110 POP3
Port 143 IMAP
Port 2082 cPanel
Port 2095 Webmail
Port 3306 MySQL

You can see the server status script that I use (I didn't make it) by clicking on 'Server Status' in my sig.
