Will phpbb3 work with default php settings?

Some of the features may work, but I would recommend upgrading anyway, because I believe that some of the important features will not work on the basic version of php.
You can upgrade in the account control pannel.

It's necessary to upgrade to the Intermediate PHP anyways, for things such as file uploads. Also, if you have a large topic, the basic PHP may have a small enough memory limit to prevent large topics from even loading.
