    Hard Drive Cleanup?

I am looking for one or two programs that will help with tidying up my computer ( cleaning / repairing registry, cleaning temp files ) and maybe a good defrag program for after.

I currently have CCleaner and wonder if I need something else?

    Re: Hard Drive Cleanup?

    Thank you.

CCleaner seems to do a pretty decent job, but I think there is more that could be "tidy" to my system. If cleaning and repairing doesn't help, I know a website that has members that checks Hijack This logs and can help clean up hidden material.

Oh, I use Vista and am on a laptop ( if that helps any )

Here are some tips you should use!

Before you go to sleep tonight leave your laptop on and run Windows Defrag!

The next day uninstall any software you don't require.

After successfully removing unnecessarily software download tuneup utilities 08 and run registry cleaner!

Then when you go to sleep again that night, restart your computer and open it in safe mode. Then run your anti-virus program.

Repeat those steps once every 2-3 months or if you want to be like me, do it once a week You should have a very smooth computer by then!

If its not a stupid question, shouldn't all unwanted programs be deleted before defrag?

If you right click on C: or D: or whatever hard drive you have, there should be an option for cleanup...

This might be pretty basic but it gives you the option to compress old files, clean up temp files and all the old rubbish - again before defrag.

Defrag should always be the last thing you do as it re-indexes the HDD to open up uncluttered space.

This is especially important if you are putting on/ deleting large files.

P.S. - try CHKDSK. It'll check for corrupt or bad sectors on your disc.

    Re: Hard Drive Cleanup?

That was the same question I was about to ask.
Shouldn't I clear out any unwanted files / programs prior to defragging?

Okay. Thank you for the information otherwise, I plan to do some cleaning up tonight and see if that helps speed up my comp. some ( Plus free up some needed HD space. Ha! )

    Re: Hard Drive Cleanup?

    Okay.

Thank you. Also, maybe a good reg cleaner would be good, I think ( or whatever is suggested to help find temp. files / junk files / etc. )

Anything that will help. ( Or suggestions to clean up / speed up a Vista laptop )

    Re: Hard Drive Cleanup?

following up on this, does anybody knows a program that like displays a chart of your drive like which folder take up 10% of you HD, 15%, and so forth. I remember having a program like this but I lost it when transferring my computer.
