If you need free DNS services, you should probably try OpenDNS at http://www.opendns.org
wow, thank you. although it wasn't geared towards me, with a little research after the fact, it seems like a new dns server is a great remedy for verizon fios's iffy dns servers
http://pl.atyp.us/wordpress/?p=1141 <- was just what i needed, and now fios is finally fast

What does this site do?
Does it enable you to host your own site or something like that?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
From John Klyne
DNS's are what converts google.com into the actual IP address. Since it's easier for us to remember names rather than numbers, this does the work for us. If you're DNS server is iffy (like Verizon's), you can use this to remedy it.
In my case, I used Verizon's public DNS (4.2.2.1-4.2.2.5) and it's noticeably much faster.
Yeah openDNS speeds up dramatically (sometimes)

CNAMEs and MX records are not required to access the site. CNAMEs are for subdomains and MX is for mail servers.Originally Posted by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System
As you can see, I don't like people telling me I'm wrong. I will come back with sources every time :P

Ow ok I got it.
So I am wondering something, by using dns can't I or anyone else make their own domain name instead of just buying it?
(Sorry I may be oblivious sometimes)
