mailer for wordpress

please tell me a solution to send mails for my users at my wordpress blog like we do in board softwares like phpbb etc.
is there any plugin needed to be installed.

I'm sure you can configure it to your needs. Just edit the registration form maybe, and put a newsletter opt-in in it.
