Looking for a good Registration System tutorial

For a while now I been looking for a good way to incorporate a registration system for my website, I have searched endlessly online for what I need but can't find exactly that. I have realized I am not too advanced in this department and need alot of tutorial and step by step instruction on how to do it. I would really appriciate if someone could assist me or point me in the right direction in how to go about getting this type of system as stated below.

Register students without email confrimation
Once they register they will go to another page which is a sorting hat so like a registration they are automatically sorted into a house based on answers they put in the questionaire

Once that is done each student that registers will get an student ID number which is automatically assigned, then they can login and go to their student file etc.

I want to be able to incorporate a system like that used for a hogwarts school.
