HOW TO: upload Dreamweaver files using FTP

Ok, so you've developed your website in DreamWeaver (CS3).

Now, you want to upload your page(s) to x10hosting.

Here are the steps that worked for me:

In DreamWeaver, find "Site" on the menu bar (at the top)
and click on the menu entry "Manage Sites."

    Now, click the "Edit" button.

    1. Editing Files

When the "Site Definition" dialog pops up, enter your
desired site name in the top box:

    MyCoolSite

and then enter your URL in the bottom box:

    http://<your domain>.x10hosting.com

    Example:
    http://mydomain.x10hosting.com

    Click the "Next" button.

    2. Editing Files, Part 2

Now, choose whether you want server technology
(I chose "No") and click the "Next" button.

    3. Editing Files, Part 3

Here, I selected "Edit local copies" and put
    "C:\MyWebSite" in the second box.

When you're done here, click the "Next" button.

    4. Sharing Files

Ok, we're finally at the FTP info page.

In the top box, choose "FTP" from the dropdown menu:
    FTP

In the second box, enter your hostname:
    <your domain>.x10hosting.com

In the third box, enter the location for the webpages:
    public_html/

In the fourth box, enter your x10hosting username:
    <your username>

In the fifth box, enter your password:
    <your password>
and make sure the "Save" checkbox is checked.

Next, I left the Secure FTP checkbox unchecked.

Now, click the "Test Connection" button.

A dialog should pop up saying:
"Adobe DreamWeaver CS3 connected to your webserver successfully."

If an error dialog pops up, check the entries on this
page carefully (hostname, folder, username, password)
    and try again.
Check other forum entries to see if this information has been updated.
You can also look at DreamWeaver video documentation:
    www.adobe.com/go/vid0162.
If you were successful, click the "OK" and "Next" button(s).

    5. Sharing Files, part 2

Here, I selected "No, do not enable check in and check out."
    Click the "Next" button.

    6. Summary

Verify your information and click the "Done" button.
(A informational dialog may pop up concerning the cache. Click "OK.")

Finally, click the "Done" button on the Manage Sites dialog.

    7. Publish your pages

Find "Site" again on the menu bar and select "Put"
    and follow the prompts!

If you need additional info on this step, DreamWeaver has a helpful video:
    www.adobe.com/go/vid0163.

    8. Test

In your favorite browser, enter your URL in the address
bar to visit your webpage. In DreamWeaver, Edit (make
some visible change) on your webpage, publish again and
reload your page. If you see the change, you're all set!

If you get an error like "No DNS for www.mysite.com" or
"Domain not found", it probably means that your domain name
has not yet propagated (you just signed up). It takes time
for a new domain name to be recognized (1 or 2 days)
    so you have to wait...

I would like to add one more thing. In step 4 if FTP connections fails, try to connect using the option "PASSIVE FTP".And also make sure that your Firewall allows FTP connections.

Re: HOW TO: upload Dreamweaver files using FTP

Thanks! Nice article. Allowed me to login and get my site uploaded quickly.

Also, I would like to add that, during registration, I typed and saved my username using uppercase/lowercase characters. However, x10Hosting's email with my account details showed my username in only lowercase. Initially, Dreamweaver would not connect using my uppercase/lowercase username. I noticed this small detail and changed my Dreamweaver login info accordingly. Works like a champ!

    Thanks again!

Re: HOW TO: upload Dreamweaver files using FTP

    Step 4:

In the second box, enter your hostname:
    <your domain>.x10hosting.com
I think this is where I'm getting stopped. I have tried every combo I can think of, and I still fail. Could someone provide a specific example? In other words, the entire domain [http://www.WHATEVER.co.cc.x10hosting.com] I can't seem to get it right.

    THANKS!
