    A couple VPS questions

    Hello,

    I currently have a VPS with another company, and I'm paying twice as much for the same amount of resources than what it would cost with X10.

    I used to actually "work" for x10 several years ago (I forgot my account) and was pleased to see you guys offer VPSes now! Way to go!!!

    A couple of quick questions though:

    1.) The current host I have my VPS with allows LEGAL US adult content. If I had a VPS here, would a couple of sites with my LEGAL adult content be allowed?

    2.) I run a VERY small ircd on my VPS. If I had a VPS here, would I be allowed to run it?

    I'm looking into get the $39.95 a month package, so I should have more than enough resources.

    Thanks!

    -Nathanial

    I hope this helps with some of your questions... please read the TOS for the VPS service here http://x10hosting.com/tos-vps.php

    Right on. Thanks for that link, I couldn't find anything about VPSes. I'm too swamped I guess with other work, and overlooked it.

    From what I understand, unless a staff says otherwise in this thread (and please do, if I'm wrong), I'm in the clear, and should be able to host what I'm hosting already.

    Thanks for that link mate, I'd rep you if I could!

    http://x10hosting.com/aup.php

    You wanna check that too, toyo missed it in his original post.

    There is stuff in there about adult material; it looks like it's disallowed on x10, whether it's free, paid, or vps.

    I might be wrong though; I can't remember if the AUP applies to everything or not. I'm assuming it's everything though.

    TOS breakers will be suspended regardless of race, creed, national origin, hair color, or favorite food. Thanks for your understanding!

    Re: A couple VPS questions

    Ok, thanks for that link...

    Could a staff member clarify if a site with mild US legal "adult content" is allowed on a VPS?

    I mean... we're talking a VPS here. Porn is legal in the US... But I just want to make sure before I order a package...

    I just host a single site that has mild adult content, and it would be a major bummer if I couldn't host my other tons of sites that don't have anything to do with adult content, with you guys because of one site...

    x10Hosting does not allow the use of it's services for illegal activities. This includes hosting of copyrighted material, nulled scripts, or anything that is considered illegal under US law. A suspension leading up to termination will be imposed for a breach of these terms. While we strive to accommodate all types of customers your VPS may not be used for the following:

    * Bittorrent Trackers
    * Sending of unsolicited Email (SPAM)
    * Anything related to a botnet
    * Downloading Torrents
    * Hosting of illegal or copyrighted files
    * Free Hosting Companies

    Furthermore the end user is solely responsible for all files on their VPS whether the client had knowledge of the files or not. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure their system is secured and safe from compromise. If a system is found out to be compromised x10Hosting has the right to reload the VPS to a default OS after ample time has been given to make backups
    So I guess I'm just confused. Would a site with mild adult content be allowed, or not? Thanks...

    Re: A couple VPS questions

    Hi,
    According the the AUP:

    Offensive Content

    You may not publish or transmit via x10Hosting's service any content that x10Hosting reasonably believes:

    constitutes child pornography;
    constitutes pornography;
    is excessively violent, incites violence, threatens violence, or contains harassing content or hate speech;
    is unfair or deceptive under the consumer protection laws of any jurisdiction, including chain letters and pyramid schemes;
    is defamatory or violates a person's privacy;
    creates a risk to a person's safety or health, creates a risk to public safety or health, compromises national security, or interferes with an investigation by law enforcement;
    improperly exposes trade secrets or other confidential or proprietary information of another person;
    is intended to assist others in defeating technical copyright protections;
    clearly infringes on another person's trade or service mark, patent, or other property right;
    promotes illegal drugs, violates export control laws, relates to illegal gambling, or illegal arms trafficking;
    is otherwise illegal or solicits conduct that is illegal under laws applicable to you or to x10Hosting; or
    is otherwise malicious, fraudulent, or may result in retaliation against x10Hosting by offended viewers.
    Also, the AUP states that:
    This AUP governs the use of x10Hosting's free hosting, paid hosting, and VPS services. Violation of this AUP may result in suspension or termination of your service. In the event of a dispute between you and x10Hosting regarding the interpretation of this AUP, x10Hosting's interpretation, in its reasonable commercial judgment, shall govern. If you have any questions regarding this AUP, contact support [@] x10hosting.com.
    So it covers VPS's you could ask an admin in the IRC and see what they say, or you could email support[@]x10hosting.com

    Hope this helped,
    Regards,
    Jamie

    Re: A couple VPS questions

    Yes, I even quoted the AUP, but thank you again...

    But I ask for some clarification, because data seems to clash.

    So could a staff member please clarify as to why, or if this is the case?

    95% of webhosts out there don't allow adult related content on shared hosting, but allow LEGAL content on VPS and dedicated.... so why doesn't X10? Seems like that would be like shooting themselves in the foot. One of the joys of a VPS is having not only more control, but having more limits on content, etc, lifted, because you're running in your own environment (adult sites on a shared host server is obviously a bad idea. the adult site would bog the services down, and it would just be a headache).

    This is a huge let down, if I won't be able to host with you guys because one person I host has a site with mild adult content.... -_-
