    X10 Nameservers, dns service

Since paid services don't really have a sugestion area, I'm putting this here.

I have an idea for all paid services (VPS and hosting)
While paid hosting has access to the nameservers, its through cpanel (I assume since i don't have paid hosting)
VPS users either use multiple IP addresses and bind, or some external dns service.

Why not offer VPS users a panel so they can use the x10 nameservers.
Also as a side, add an API to it so both services can update it how ever the user needs.

Example of API usage(Similar to enom's API)
    http://clients.x10hosting.com/API/ac...www&ip=1.2.3.4

leave ip off: server's IP that sent it is used
    Just leading the flock.

If it's to my understanding don't our VPSs use x10's nameservers for DNS resolution too?

VPS at x10Hosting is unmanaged. You get a VPS Control Panel and a blank slice of disc space, (putting things in very simple terms). I am not sure it is even possible to use x10's nameservers. I registered my own nameservers and setup BIND. There are probably other simpler ways of dealing with DNS.

TinyDNS is a VERY simple DNS daemon. It comes with supervise which makes sure the daemon starts again if it crashes. You might have it in a repo depending on your distro.

It's usually in there as djbdns.

Getting used to new things is poopy, but TinyDNS really is TINY. It runs with very little memory imprint (No, I don't work for him, but I do use the program.)

Adding and removing entries is pretty easy too.

    Link to homepage.

D.J Bernstein has a few useful and good programs I use and don't even worry about if I should switch back.

    qmail for SMTP
daemontools to monitor your daemons and other processes. (Can be used on lighttpd, Apache, whatever really.
I don't know. But it's required for the other programs xD

Theres no reason why you couldn't use x10's name servers for your vps if x10 offered a control panel for vps users to set records

    Re: X10 Nameservers, dns service

If you purchased your domain/s that you are planning on hosting on vps from x10 then you can bind to the x10 nameservers, but if you are not using x10 registrar nameservers would not be offered for obvious reasons.

    boughtfromx10.com
    ns1.x10hosting.com
    ns2.x10hosting.com

    boughtelsewhere.com
    ns1.elsewhere.com
    ns2.elsewhere.com

webmin is your friend either way!
