    Setting up SMTP/mailserver

Ok I have went through multiple tutorials on how to setup a SMTP server and they suggest using postfix. I install this and then they have me go through and edit the .conf file. In the file I have to edit a line:

    $myhostname =

And is apparently the FQDN. My hostname for the machine is x360. So what would that look like? I have tried putting x360.x360nation.com but that has not worked.

Seems like everybody says use Postfix. I spent many frustrating hours trying to configure Postfix and get it to work right and finally went to Sendmail. Had Sendmail working in a few minutes and have never had any trouble with it over the last year. Based on what you have posted and my limited experience with Postfix I believe you put x360 for the hostname, but not positive.

Alright I will try that and if it doesnt work I will look into send mail because postfix is being a pain

    EDIT:

I don't think thats right because on the tutorial im following it has:

    mail.srv.dyndns.org

    as an example.

Good luck with this, if you figure it out please let me know. SMTP is one thing I've yet to wrap my head around.
    I use qmail, however.

Well after going on the IRC channel and talking with "toyo|desk" it seems simpler to just forward your gmail account to the dns name. However, when you send emails like this the recipient can just look at the header information contained in the email and determine that it originated at google.

When my website picks up users I will switch over to having a mail server but until then I wont mess with it. I will make another thread here when I have one up and running and I will make a tutorial out of it.

Sounds like you have a good working plan for now.

Good tutorials are always welcome. This is one I may want to study on myself.
