I am not completely clear about what you are attempting to do with your VPS, but poor performance of any kind is not "normal". That could be an indication that some misconfiguration exists in your VPS. It could also indicate that there is some kind of issue with your Internet connection or some other problem elsewhere.
Perhaps if you tell us a few more details about the problem you are experiencing we can you sort it out.

He's installed a GUI on his VPS, and is most likely using it to bot on Runescape (that's just my assumption).

The performance is probably bad because:

    1. You have a GUI installed on it.
    2. You probably don't have enough RAM to have a GUI running.
    3. Linux wasn't meant to play java games.

How much CPU were you also guaranteed? Runescape, if that's what you're playing on the VPS can be a pig in itself as well with CPU resources. Today even 1000Mhz machines struggle to play that game unless you have a decent GPU. Since VPSs don't have GPUs, you might be seeing a strain on CPU resources, causing the lagging more than a RAM issue as everything has to be done via Software.

By the way, if you are playing over VNC, VNC isn't optimized to play games.

do u know anything besides vnc that is optimized for gaming? and i was guaranteed 756mhz burstable to 1500mhz ... i was told that this was more than enough since i'm only botting one account... others bot 2-6 (depending on their plan of course) .

I might be mistaken yet again with how much CPU Runescape actually needs. As for an alternative from VNC, I wouldn't know of any programs out there. Ideally though, it would be a program that can continuously capture a screen and send it back in a video, similar to OnLive. It would need to be something that doesn't consume CPU and bandwidth though, as that's the only problem about such a system. That's why VNC shines as it can operate over anything, but it wasn't made for such use.

If someone knows of good software to use, I'm sure they can point out what would be best. Otherwise, that's all I can really say. Sorry I wasn't able to help too much.

Are you kidding me? Java is one of the most widely used languages out there, regardless of what it is used for.

    Re: VPS is extremly slow

    Allow me to rephrase,

Most people don't use linux to play those kind of games. If anything it's mostly used to run servers, or used to write other types of programs. In this case, however, no development is being performed, and it is simply playing a game using the JRE, not the JDK.

    Re: VPS is extremly slow

GUI on Linux over the net is never the same as GUI on the local pc. It is always sluggish no matter how fast your connection or server is let along you are on VPS. To me VPS is a virtual machine on a server that might have many other VPS running so you are sharing server resource, I might be wrong though!
