    VPS reboot?

    Hello,

So I had to reboot my vps today and when I go to access my site it will not come up. I then try to access webmin through my ip and the browser tells me it can not connect. I have everything set to start on boot like apache, mysql, and BIND dns. This is the first time this has happened from a reboot. Does anyone know whats wrong with the vps server?

    Thanks,

    David Guadagno

    Re: VPS reboot?

Via SSH, try running top or ps -A | grep (someService)

    Or try

    /etc/init.d/httpd(or apache2) restart

Just use httpd or apache2 depending on which you've installed (some distros use httpd, some use apache2)

Or, you can just try restarting your VPS. Though, restarting apache/other services may help you diagnose why they didn't start in the first place. have you made any configuration changes that may have caused them to fail on startup? Virtualhost changes, php/apache config changes, etc can cause them to have fatal errors and not start.

I've noticed with some things when not installed and configured correctly (and sometimes even if they are) will not boot on restart, so you have to manually boot with a service xx start

Do not threadjack, it's rude. You more than likely wouldn't like it if someone did it to your thread, so don't do it to someone else's.

There is currently no trial setup for x10VPS at this time, and likely won't be due to the nature of VPS's being virtual self-contained fully-functional servers. If the abuse rate is high on free hosting (and it is), it'd be worse on a VPS where anyone with linux knowledge would now have a miniature virtualized server to use and/or abuse.

This is really up to you. You can restart it everyday or once a year it really depends on your applications and your site.VPS reboot normally takes around 5 minutes. Your web-site will be off-line during this period.
