At x10hosting, we provide users with several free second level domain (SLD) choices such as x10.mx and pcriot.com. But suppose you registered a top-level domain (TLD) or another SLD elsewhere and want to use it with x10hosting.

Before you begin, make sure your domain is pointed to the correct nameservers:

  • ns1.x10hosting.com
  • ns2.x10hosting.com

Remember that DNS can take up to 48 hours to update.

You have three options: Main Domain, Addon Domain, or Parked Domain.

Main Domain

Changing your main domain will change the domain that uses the files in the root public_html directory. This will remove your x10hosting free SLD.

To start, login to your Account Panel with your forum information.

On the top menu, head to Hosting --> Modify Domain. Enter in your custom domain but unchecking the option to use an x10hosting subdomain.

Modify your main domain at x10hosting

Addon Domain

A addon domain allows you to run a separate site. It loads the files from a folder in the public_html folder that you specify.

Login to your cPanel and browse to Addon Domains in the Domains box.

Enter the name of your own domain and select the name of the folder you want files for the new site to be placed in as well as information for a FTP account that can only access this domain (note that your main FTP account can still access everything).

Modify your addon domain in cPanel

Upload all your files for this domain in your specified folder, such as /public_html/myowndomain.com

Parked Domain

A parked domain will show the exact same site as your main domain. It loads the files from the public_html folder. However, the email accounts are separate from your main domain unless you added the email account as a wild card email.

Login to your cPanel and browse to Parked Domains in the Domains box.

Enter the name of your own domain and click Add Domain.
