With most web scripts, any data created when handling a page request is discarded when the script finishes. To be useful, scripts of consequence need persistant data storage. This usually means interacting with a database management system, such as MySQL.

Before being able to use PostgreSQL, you should create a PostgreSQL database and user through cPanel.

Then you need to configure your script to connect to PostgreSQL, the following settings should be used:

Host/Server Name
5432 (not necessary)
Your cPanel username followed by an underscore and the PostgreSQL username you configured in cPanel.
The password that you used when creating the PostgreSQL user.
Your cPanel username followed by an underscore and the name of the database that you created in cPanel.

Remember: Free hosting accounts do not have remote PostgreSQL access.
