Ok, this is the 3rd time in not even as many weeks my site has gone down, and to be honest, I know there is a server reshuffle, but come on, I'm on the Ad-Free account and still I get...

The connection has timed out

The server at www.galiantair.x10hosting.com is taking too long to respond.


Anyone care to add there input? Don't advertise 99.9% server uptime if you're just BS'ing

I know it's frustrating when the server goes down... my site has been going down a fair bit recently, usually when I'm in the middle of debugging complex data transfer between flash and sql via php.
Probably somebody on our server has some program that's hammering it. But what do you expect with this many users? And a free host?
If you want guaranteed uptime, you have to pay for it :(

Well, the account is adfree not Server Upgrade Free !

And IMHO using the server upgrade time as a sample to work out uptime statistics is a little biased notwithstanding the fact that the time period 3 weeks is not quite representative for overall uptime!

It's an ad-free account. x10 is making NOTHING WHATSOEVER off your account, and you expect premium no-downtime service?

Haha. Funny stuff. But come on, I'm paying nothing, putting up no adds and STILL not getting full service? :p

Don't get me wrong, I partially agree, especially on the "don't advertise what you can't provide". And the server blacking out on a daily basis gets annoying. But you really could be a bit more understanding. The staff spend hours upgrading and maintaining the servers (and not getting paid for it either) so that people who don't even pay anything can have their site hosted. The least you could do in return is show a little gratitude.

It's going to take a while for things to stabilize. If you don't have the patience to wait, leave. Good luck finding a host that offers all you can get here for free ;)

i would bash you for this post but others have already... Your getting a "free" web host why not "PAY" for it so you have something to complain about. This is the best free host I have EVER been with dude my site goes down all the time your not the only one. but when something major happens there on top of it right away. and when my site is down its never down for more then 10mins. So dont get annoyed unless your having a major problem and no one is helpping you out with what could be a problem with your own site.

If you are really getting annoyed because of server downtimes move to a paid hosting and there expect less downtime. while you are on a free hosting you should expect several downtimes.

Indeed, you shouldn't expect 99.9% downtime. I am sure, however, that once the server issues would be resolved, downtime would be improved.

However, I don't think that advertising 99.9% downtime is fair.

It is the best free hosting i have seen so far :cool:

On the subject of being in the middle of debuging i would suggest using a local server in your own PC or laptop for development. I also have developed in live but usually it is slow progress. You can not really test the app because in case of an accidental infinite loop you will probably get suspended :naughty:

Well Corey's giving his best to keep downtimes minimal as possible but if the servers need upgrade, paid or not, Corey has to shut down some of the services (like HTTP) to make the upgrade as smooth possible. Corey pays the servers from his own pocket so consider his part of the story...

He doesn't expect a premuim no-downtime service. He is just saying that the servers have been on and off more than usual lately. And also, the site says:
Our average server uptime is 99.9%. What other free host can say that?
, so in effect free servers should have 99.9% uptime :p

But yea, I think he is just annoyed with the recent downtime, and doesn't expect 100% uptime.

That is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. What kind of person picks at .1%? Do you understand how dumb that SOUNDS? That means that if you have your account for 1,000 days (which is ALMOST THREE YEARS), you will have one day of down time IN A WORST-CASE SCENARIO. However, you are getting a free domain, given to you by Corey's generosity, and you have the balls to complain about your site's problems? It's not like he's TRYING to ruin your experience here. If you want Corey to spend his money and time on making your site better, you'd better spend some money on him too. Or better yet, make INTELLIGENT posts and people might give you enough credits to earn a free domain.

I really think Corey should implement a system where if you whine and complain, you get an auto suspend for 'x' amount of days. I'm tired of people coming here, creating a new account, and expecting A+ PREMIUM service that is provided to PAID customers.

If you don't like it, there is one way for you to go; that's the door. Go back to geocities or anglefire if you want guaranteed uptime. I, on the other hand, welcome the outages because it's only going to benefit us in the long run.

Just interjecting, though I don't have much to complain about since I am new to x10 hosting. However, my site has also been down. I can tolerate it since it is usually back up once I return from school. What I think is that the slogan is "Coporate free hosting for the masses." Doesn't this mean that x10 is known for their free hosting? I think that instead of flaming people who complain over downtime, we should consider that if x10 is known for its free hosting, then it should focus more on satisfying the people who hear of it and sign up for the free hosting. That way the site can get more members and earn a better reputation for its free hosting.

free hosting doesn't bring in any money... I'm sure Corey started x10 as an investment... and the fact that he offers free ad-free hosting amazes me and everybody should be happy that they get it at all... and that itself should satisfy people...
