Effective immediately all non upgraded packages have been hard limited.
High Risk Countries: 500MB (Previously Limited)
Everyone Else: 1GB

Due to excessive abuse by customers using accounts for personal file storage, warez, movies, etc we will no longer offer the unmetered feature immediately after signup. We will still offer unmetered storage by request as long as your account qualifies with the requirements listed below.

Unmetered Requirements
- Account must be one week old
- You must be using at least 50% of your storage space
- You must have a working website online that falls inline with our terms of service

If you meet the above requirements just open a support request and a community support representative will upgrade your account.

This will allow our legitimate users to grow their sites with the unmetered features without being affected by the constant abuse the servers have been enduring. Removing hundreds of gigs of warez every few days takes a lot of our time and puts a lot of strain on the servers. We believe this is a fair compromise that will not actually affect anyone legitimately needing the unmetered space option.

Hypothetically speaking, what about those legitimate users who are already past the 1GB mark?

They just need to submit a ticket and the limit will be lifted for them. If they're already over they will not be able to upload anymore until the limit is lifted or they remove enough files to fall below the limit.

100% for High Risk Countries?

Lotus's would still follow the original Lotus restrictions I think (7 days + TOS abiding only) because Lotus also has its bandwidth capped; the other accounts on the other servers don't get the bandwidth cap, just the 1gb disk.

I believe for high risk users it would be as follows:

1. High risk users signs up for 500mb limited account

2. High risk user has legitimate webite up for 7 days, abides by ToS and requests limit lift

3. The user is now set to the normal 1GB plan

3. User has 500mb of actual files used for their website and are going to need more and submits a ticket to receive the unlimited plan.

There really is no reason to upgrade directly to unlimited disk space if you're not using the space you already have.

So let me get this straight...
I've had my account here for over a week now.
I'm currently not using 500mb, but my site is not fully uploaded, people told about it, etc.
If I were to reach the 1GB limit, I able to apply for the unlimited again?

You don't have to wait until you hit 1gb to request it, but yeah you can request it at any time as long as all 3 requirements are met.

exactly, that should be the policy.

can i just aks though? how can you have unlimited dsisk space when a current hard drive is2TB at most?
The server storage could be virtualized as well as quotas.
Me dont think every account actually needs to have the storage space uncapped. If anything, the cap can help to maintain the server stability in case some site logging or automation going wild.
Although, not directly a TOS writings (or unable to locate this part) there is a fixed quotas to Image galleries, Video and Audio storage. You have to consult to the forum elders first to not get confused later.

I'm not sure of the exact setup here, but I know in different production environments, you can chain hard drives together. So what was 4 2TB drives now becomes 8TB of storage.

nothing in this world is unlimited. The term "unlimited" is just an assurance that we never let you run out of disk space.

That would be having them running in a RAID configuration.

Honestly, I can see why you guys have done this and it's a really good idea.
I just hope that in the future you guys can still afford to stay free, cause I haven't found one other free host that is as great as x10.

LOL Im sure X10 dont just have 1 x 2TB drive, im pretty sure they are using a SAN and thin provision everyones account to some extent.
If you have an unlimited account your space (folder) will grow as required.

True........
But it also applies to file transfer (bandwidth). There is no limit how much your site can be viewed
