I have used x10 hosting for a number of years and been very happy with it. Recently i moved my primary domain to another webhosting and have been looking to change the focus of my x10 hosted site. However it seems that x10 dont actually care about you if you are on free hosting. I have opened a community support ticket, but these seem pretty useless since no one but account adminstrators can fix my issue

The thread opened here http://x10hosting.com/forums/support/question/1975/change-main-domain-to-x10-free-one/ has had no comments except myself, now two months on.

I was looking to upgrade to a better service once i had been moved back onto one of their domains but if this is the support i get i will look elsewhere. There are numerous other people who cannot use their site as their primary domain is now not pointing at x10

It would be very useful if there was some group of people who had the ability to raise a moderator to look at the situation, and then further it onto account support as i have had no help trying to get the attention of people using the only support option you give me.

This complete lack of help has meant that i will most certainly not be looking to purchase services, and shall change my recommendations for x10 on my various blogs to reference this issue i am having.

I thank you for the time that you have given me, but the complete lack of support has rendered my account entirely useless, and only as a storage facility now.

Certainly hosting changes can have problems but if you look at http://x10hosting.com/forums/feedback-suggestions/180181-thanks-x10hosting-you-great.html you will see that some have much to be thankful for :)

In your opening sentence you mentioned how you too were happy with the service here. It was unfortunate that you met with some problems when x10 was also having some problems (maybe) am quite sure there will be someone contacting you soon.

Having said that, please remember this is a FREE service. People volunteer their time and effort. There are a few hundred active users and as such there might be some delay. Yes 2 months is rather long, could it be that there were doing upgrading exercise at that time?

Hope you get your problem resolved. Cheers. It's not the end of the world yet

The rant I partly understand but the misleading link underneath the signature tag is a tad naughty.

LOL thats an old link :D apparently when you delete text and start writing in this RTE it kept the link, i have now modified it to remove that. Thanks for telling me.

Could you not of closed the existing X10 free account yourself and simply created another?

I was under the impression that A) you were not allowed more than one account and B) i did not know that it was possible to close an account.

Even if B) is possible, i dont really want to do this for various reasons

Indeed, i am thankful for the service they have provided, it is just sad that i have now been waiting two months and had no response. It seems like no one actually cares about the support tickets there as i have looked through numerous account problems ther that havent been resolved. Is it that no one actually reads posts made there?

i would hope so, then again i hoped i would be contacted within days of posting, then a month later i made another comment "bumping" it, and here i am another month on with further no response. Any voulenteer that want to help people wont reply becuase they cant do anything.

i fully ackknowledge that people give their free time and at the forum i run this often delays things. Needless to im not perticularly angry at any specific people but its upsetting that i have had no response whatsoever.

Hope you get your problem resolved. Cheers. It's not the end of the world yet

Its the end of the world today :p

But yeah, thanks mate, nice to at least see that some people do respond to posts, the ticket/support section seems barren with posts upon posts with no replies.

Have a great day both of you :)

I'd like to apologize for the super-long time it's been taking for you (and others) to get domains changed. I was speaking with some other people a few weeks back about adding a feature to the account portal to allow people on non-x10 main domains to change back; unfortunately other more pressing issues came up in the form of server issues and other issues that impact x10's business more than giving people the ability to recover their main domain so they do not have to use workarounds like parked/addon domains. I've picked up where that was left off and am currently working on a system (not integrated with the account portal as of now) that would allow users to do exactly that.

I'm one of the few that does have the access to change main domains, but I felt my time would be better devoted to a system that would allow potentially thousands of affected users to fix the issue themselves rather than trawling through the community support system and having the back-and-forth conversation with everyone who reports an issue as the latter, while giving the affected users who speak out faster service and resolution, ends up being a much larger time drain on myself and others with the access.

I don't have an ETA of exactly when the system will be finished, but I will post an Announcement when it is.

While i am happy that there is a solution for people and i full agree that you should be looking after your business customers who are paying first and foremost, i feel it is rather bad that i found so many posts in the support section with no responses whatsoever. I consider the fact that the only way i could get some kind of response was to make a frustrated post here to be quite bad form...

Ah well, Good luck to one and all, for now x10 merely be the thing i log into rarely to keep the account for sentimental reasons, since i cant actually use it.

However it seems that x10 dont actually care about you if you are on free hosting.

This should be common sense. Of course they would rather you use their paid-for service and give premium users the benefits.
Don't complain about something that's free.

I don't know why you think free service does not deserve proper support because at the end of the day free hosting is not given out by kindness but as a business model that free customers if they are happy with the service then they will become paid customers.

Likewise I have a current issue with adding a domain. If that is not resolved by tomorrow then unfortunately for x10hosting I will have to find another free hosting. I am using the free hosting for a start up business to keep the costs low as possible. If the business becomes successful I will become a paid customer for that extra guarantee of uptime but if they can't resolve my issues when I am a free hosting customer then I can take my business else where which would be a loss for x10hosting.

To conclude don't settle for bad support because it is their job to impress you so much that you will become a paid customer one day.

If four bucks a month is too much to venture, you don't have a business model, period. If you can risk starting a site on a server with several thousand active accounts run mostly by novices and hobbyists, any of which can DoS your site at any time due to bad code or inefficient use of database and other resources, you don't have a business model. If you can afford to be on a server that can be blocked due to (transient and quickly-caught) illegal/abusive behaviour from other accounts, you don't have a business model. Free hosting is not all about the upsell, nor is it meant to be a "taste test" of paid services. It's a venue for sites that will never pay for themselves, and whose owners cannot afford to pay for a hobby or vanity site.

I believe that statement is false and a generalization of the market.

http://x10hosting.com/forums/introductions/184306-thumbs-up-x10.html

Example of one of x10 hostings free customers. They are clearly not a hobby or vanity site owner. If you read the thread, it explains how that person used to be a paid customer (different hosting) but is now a free customer (with x10 hosting) because they have financial issues at the moment.

From my example of this client, it shows that there is in fact a market for website owners who simply cannot at the time invest $4 a month, and they are trying out a free service. There is a possibility that they may pay again in the future because they were a paid client once before.

Further I would like to show that x10 hosting itself acknowledge that there are some free customers who would be willing to pay, maybe not 4$ a month but perhaps $1 a month. Look at the Illuminated package which offers 99.9% uptime for $60 for 5 years, equaling $1 a month. If x10 hosting believed that all free client "owners cannot afford to pay" then the mention of the Illuminated package is pointless.

Thus, not all free site owners are hobby or vanity sites, and yes for some a free hosting from x10 hosting may very well be "taste testing", because they have had inadequate service from a paid service in the past and do not want to make the same mistake again (refer to thread I posted). To put simply, I disagree with your statement because it has generalized the entire free hosting market to make it seem there is no money to be gained, and no potential for free customer to become paid customers.

Even if you spread the word, x10 will still get customers and members because they get a lot of traffic and they probably have ceo specialist just incase bad words spread around. SO it really does not matter what you do to defame x10. x10 can sue for defamtion of character if the host loses customers or go down in anything due to your spreading o 'the word' not to come.
