It has often been suggested that I may have multiple personality disorder, but to the best of my knowledge there have never been more than three of me active at any one time. The "Top Contributors" slot on the forum main page currently has a six-pack of me (and descalzo, Peppermi and usama_rasab27) showing. For loop gone wrong, p'raps?

We think Bryon is experimenting with cloning again...

... gee a bit less crowded now. Only 3X. I'll sort of miss me#4 and me#5, but me#6 was a real pain.

They've killed #3... or was it #2?

But I should be safe, I'm descalzo #1. I think.

That's the trouble with deep cloning — everyone remembers being the original. It does feel lonely just being twins...

The real question you should ask is are you the original or the clone, and when the "others" are eliminated does that confer the originality to you if you are the clone?

Interesting question for exploration. Robert J. Sawyer covered it in a couple of his short stories: Shed Skin and Identity Theft. Not cloning, specifically, but identities existing in two bodies (one natural and one artificial, in this case).

I don't believe I've read those, gonna have to check them out. I read alot of Issac Assimov, and Terrance Dicks is my favorite at the moment.

Sawyer lives not far from me (the only full-time Canadian-born SF writer), so I'm a bit biased, but I'd say that if you liked Asimov, you'll probably like his stuff. It's in the same vein, just a little more contemporary (and unapologetically Canadian in a lot of its settings); a welcome break from the Heinlein wannabes if you ask me. The stories make you think, using SF as a stepping-off point for a lot of philosophical and political exploration. The characters are well-developed and three-dimensional, and the science may be stretched to the thinking point, but rarely to the breaking point.

I love stories that will make you think and the " stretching" of science fiction makes for a far more interesting story. for instance the original star trek when it first aired on tv, quite a few people were blown away at the technology they showed, E.g. touchscreen computers, communicators that didn't have to sit in the trunk of your car and leave little to no room for the spare tire etc. Which are now mainstream in the marketplace. And to write a good book you need more than just the science aspect of it. To top it all off having good characters who aren't too bland is a great addition. you've sold me on checking out his stories, I really appreciate the recommendations.

They had gotten it down to one, and now it is back up to six. It's like I've gone off my meds.

It has a life of its own apparently. A suggestion of mine would be to maybe replace it with recent forum topics or last important announcements block... or even links to important pages like FAQ and how-to's types.

I would agree; as I worded it to another staff member recently, as much as I like my avatar, seeing 36 of it is a bit creepy :p

Your response seems to imply you think it's broken or misreporting there are 12 of descalzo online?

Maybe it's different for everyone, but at the time I posted there were about 4-5 blocks from 4-5 different avatars repeated 10-12 times and it just stretched the block down very far. Not the case today but that is why I suggested what I wrote.

Sorry - I wasn't doubting you. My implication was that there were actually 12 descalzos :)
