I have 2 accounts and I can no longer access either via FTP. I've been connecting for a few years and it just stopped over the summer. FTP returns:

d:\wjp>ftp pattinso.x10host.com
> ftp: connect :Connection refused
ftp> bye

d:\wjp>ftp grvs.x10host.com
Connected to grvs.x10host.com.
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 10 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 18:14. Server port: 21.
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 5 minutes of inactivity.
200 OK, UTF-8 enabled
User (grvs.x10host.com:(none)): grvsx10h
331 User grvsx10h OK. Password required
Password:
230 OK. Current restricted directory is /
ftp> dir
200 PORT command successful
425 Could not open data connection to port 50611: Connection refused

Has something changed on your end to cause this? Is ther something I need to check on my end?

Please help.

just a mention.
i use dreamweaver to ftp between my pc and x10 hosting.
but i do know xo5.x10hosting works fine for that.
(thats what i have for server) so for anyone using other servers,
i cannot say much for them since i dont know if they are down,
or have been changed.

maybe check your login information (username/password)
try and re-enter your password (sometimes it gets corrupted)
check your user settings to connect by ftp

I can sign in via CP to both accounts
The login information has not changed to my knowledge, definitely not from my end.
My domain name which is what I've used for years does not work
Neither does the server (xo2... and xo3...) from the FTP information in the CP login

from what you describe it is sounding like an issue with the ftp program.
or the information you entered in the program is corrupted.
(which does happen in programs over time)

id suggest checking your login information (make sure its correct)
even re-entering all the information again may help.

you can also try re-installing or replacing your ftp program.

For some reason, the PATTINSON login started working today. Not a clue what happened.

In Windows-10, the FTP program that comes installed is "Pure-FTPd". When I run that program I AM re-entering all the information, making sure it is correct. If you look at the message I posted, I DO get logged in to GRVS but something seems wrong on the X10 side since I get the message "Could not open data connection to port 50611: Connection refused" when I try to list a directory.

The only thing I can't check is the password. If it got corrupted on the X10 side, how do I "check" it? I know I'm entering the password I set up otherwise I would not have been able to log in for the past few years.

ok i did not realize you were using the default ftp program with win.10
maybe there is a compatibility issue with that version and x10hosting.
i assumed you were using something more like the commonly used FileZilla.

i dont have or use win 10, i have windows 7 and just use dreamweaver cs5.
dreamweaver is my html editor with the ftp built into it.

maybe someone else here uses windows 10 and can help you better.

Since you're the only one that has responded to any of the 3 threads I posted, I doubt it now. It seems no one with actual knowledge (Admins, Techs, Employees) bother with the forums and leave it to the users to help users. I see many posters get little help if any on the forums.

I do appreciate the attempt. Thanks.

I have used various FTP programs, some are better than others.
The current best one I've used is Filezilla and the worst is WinSCP.
Filezilla, for me, doesn't randomly disconnect and reconnect every few seconds during uploads/downloads/idle for no apparent reason.

WedDrive works great - at least it has since I signed up here many years ago. Now it can't even find the network. The problem isn't with the FTP programs, it with the connection AFAICT. The native FTP client in Windows 10 logs in fine with the same credentials but can't perform a DIR/LS because it can't open a data connection to port (value keeps incrementing) with "Connection Refused". This time the port was 50067 and --68. It does open on port 21.

just a thought,
but is it possible the windows version being used may be effecting the ftp ?
its my understanding that windows 8 and 10 started using a lot of things
not used in lower versions of windows targeting software pirating etc...
myself i use windows 7 and currently i have no issues at all.

thats why its strange to me that all these other people are reporting issues
and im not seeing any problems like that at all.

Not performing a DIR/LS after a successful login is what is happening to me with Filezilla on my windows 7 machine (I don't use 10 either).

I get the too many users error most of thje time but when I do get in I usually get the above issue.

And if by some miracle I successfully get in and not get either of those errors, the moment I try to transfer a file, even just one, it hangs and then gives up.

Same things happens with WinSCP when I try that.

I don't get it.. this service was worked great for years and now its just falling over and not getting fixed. Reminds me of the downfall of Webring free hosting before I moved here. Things started to break (even for paying customers), they sopped answering messages or giving support and that was it.. never got fixed and everyone had to leave. Hope that doesn't happen here.

@blakessa you do make a good point about the "break down" of free hosting.
and degradation of the servers and services like we are seeing as users here.
it does make you wonder if x10hosting is heading that way or not.

they should provide better support for the free users,
especially when they could be potential paid users if they were satisfied.
but thats another story.

but back to the issue, maybe its related to the server pattinso and others use.
like mine is on the xo5.x10hosting server, others on xo4.x10hosting or
xo1.x10hosting could be experiencing server failures of some kind,
where me, using xo5.x10hosting could be perfectly fine "for now".
then this could explain all the issues getting reported now.
just a thought.

i dont know what you or others use for your server sign in info,
but like in my dreamweaver i use ftp.mysite.x10.bz
and it works fine for me and has for like almost 2 yrs now.

I normally use ftp.'mysite'.x10.mx which was what they suggested years ago when I first signed up.. however when these problems began I checked what current ftp details they suggested on my cpanel and saw xo7.x10hosting.com but when I tried that the results were the same.

Good news guys! I emailed support about the ftp issues and the cpanel upload issues.

Naturally I got the "We do not provide technical support, website design or troubleshooting assistance via email. Please visit the forum blah blah" to which I told them that I already had used the forum with many others and had got no answer, that the issues were getting out of the control, and that if we can't email them and no one is checking the forum then the 'wall' between us and them has been set too high. I then pleaded with them to get whoever usually monitors the forum to drop by and pay a visit. I got no reply but I'm guessing they still read it as we've now got lots of answers in the threads, the cpanel uploader is working again and best of all ftp is working again! Woohoo!!! :)

im sure many users had sent emails to them recently.
i had also emailed them a few days ago about the issues.
Someone from staff came by the forums yesterday.
thanks to Anna for her help in getting many of the problems fixed.

arrrgh.. I typod.. that was meant to be we've NOW got lots of answers instead of not got lots of answers. Don't you just love the typos that change the entire meaning/implication of a sentence.

So you basically repeated what I said minus the typo lol.
