FileZilla is the best FTP client on the market which is free. However uploading through cPanel (HTTP) is faster for me.

What a disrespectful person @OP. I mean they offer a free service to you and go around improving it for your needs and you complain about that?

I use my laptop for the majority and that is Windows 7. 2GB of RAM is sufficient for that.
