Hi.

I had some updated in virtual min asking to update a few things such as mysql bind a and a few other things.
So I just clicked to updated and restarted.
Now I'm getting an error that bind is not starting

Failed to start BIND : Unknown error

I have no clue what is causing this and Its effecting the website I think its slowly going offline.
What can i do to resolve this issue there is clearly a speed decline in the website.
Its taking forever to load.
Also all my subdomains have now stopped working. With major lag on the website :S

Any help with this would be fantastic.
Im running debian with virtualmin and webmin with apache and mqsql.

Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting the server and then restarting services shut down during the reboot?

What version of BIND are you running?
Also, you might find THIS LINK interesting if you have not found it yourself yet.

I read somewhere that If i totally remove bind and the user it may solve my problem.. I am eger to get this site back online as fast as possible.
We have some updates that we have just released this week. :(
How would I completely remove bind user and scripts it left behind so I can do a complete fresh install ?

My setup is not exactly the same as yours, but I am fairly sure there is an option in Webmin to remove BIND and then reinstall. Webmin - Configuration - Webmin Modules - Delete. And then back to Webmin Modules - Install - Standard Module - BIND8. Seems to me that should do a downgrade for you which seems to be the best option for now. Of course BIND will probably need some manual configuration after that.

I am getting this error in bind now.

Stopping domain name service...: bind9rndc: connection to remote host closed
This may indicate that
* the remote server is using an older version of the command protocol,
* this host is not authorized to connect,
* the clocks are not synchronized, or
* the key is invalid.

Hmm. This is not good.. I basically went back tot he start re-installed the OS Debian. From scratch and bind won't start still..
This is very strange.
Seems the latest update of bind has totally broken it.
This is the error messege I am getting.
Failed to start service : Failed to start BIND : Unknown error

I'm stuck now.. Is there another install I could use to get my website back on-line.
I'm seriously stuck and have had 3 days of downtime.
Any Help would be appreciated.
