Hi xpressi4,

I took a look at your account, and it looks like your files have some strange file permissions set (which is why your website and cPanel File Manager is not working properly). Would you like me to fix these for you?

If you would like to delete your account, however, you can do so by going to "Settings" (in the top-right of cPanel), and then click "Delete Account". http://x10hosting.com/support/account/cancel-account

Thank you,

If you can fix it please do. I also need help as to how to get my links to show so friends can visit my site.
I don't see them in control panel. I've been uploading my html pages via file manager. Is it necessary to use ftp? I'm not very good with filezilla .:(

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jojo,

I have fixed your file permissions, and your webpage now looks to be loading at http://xpressionz13dezignz.x10host.com/tutorials/Tutorials2.html

If you want that to be your homepage, make sure you name the file index.html.

You can use either cPanel File Manager or FTP to upload files; it doesn't matter. ;)

Please let me know if you have any other problems. :)

Thank you,

Thank you so much. I thought it was gone for good. OK so now I don't have a index.html folder, can I create that in the public_html part. I am still a newbie here.
And please let me know how to get the links to bookmark in my browser. Mainly for the home page. I don't like the site publisher. I was using the code editor to get the links for each page. That also seems to be needed for the background, patterns and other elements in my website. :banghead:
Thank you again.

Hi Jojo,

If you select the "Tutorials2.html" file in the File Manager and click Rename, it should let you rename it to index.html. After you do that, you will then be able to access your website at http://xpressionz13dezignz.x10host.com/tutorials/

If you don't want the /tutorials bit on the end of the URL, you can select all the files and directories in File Manager, and then click "Move Files" to take them to /public_html instead.

the code editor to get the links for each page.
I wouldn't recommend you use the full path for images and pages. Instead, you should be able to simply use the filename itself in your HTML file. So, if your HTML file refers to pattern3.jpg, you can just use that as your image source URL alone.

Thank you,

great! I moved the files to public_html as you said and in there changed the tutorials2.html file to index.html
Now where do i find the link? I typed in http://xpressionz13dezignz.x10host.com in Chrome and it took me to my tutorials page.I want to re-upload my home page files and lead viewers to that.I need help getting all the links to place in the editor.E.G.--if I want to direct someone to a tutorial...such as Autumn Beauty, do I do that like this : <a href="/home/xpressi4/public_html/tutorials/Autumn Beauty/autumnbeautytut.html"> or this : <a href="http://xpressionz13.x10host.com/xpressionz13/autumnbeauty.html"

I swear this old brain is about to short circuit! LOL!

Thank you again in advance.

Hi Jojo,

You would do <a href="/tutorials/Autumn Beauty/autumnbeautytut.html">. :)

Thank you,

I'm back...and upset with the x10 editor.
I removed all files and re-uploaded only my home page html file and its components. All my editing of this one page does not cooperate in the html editor of X10.I need to use this to link my tutorials page and other pages but if it keeps being a thorn in my side I may toss it all. :(
I ask to browse the server to fetch my home.jpg icon to place in my code or my pattern1.jpg image and none of it is showing what I made. Then when I go into the code editor it asks me about the Encoding..I have no idea what that is? Is it UTF-8 or something else?
Lastly the editor seems to be repeating or duplicating lines in my html. ( line 199 is repeated and then missing color codes or image code e.g.)

I am so very sorry for being a pain today but I was looking forward to getting this up and running soon. I have been working so hard on this for the past month I do not want to just give up but its soooo aggravating when it wont do what I tell it too.**SIGH***

Thank you in advance again.

Hi Jojo,

I'm not so sure where you are seeing the problem with your images; could you point me towards where that is?

What @serennau22 said is absolutely correct, but just to add, please also make sure your URLs are of the correct case. Your "Tutorials" directory looks to now have an uppercase "T", so linking to "/tutorials" won't work but "/Tutorials" will (because the server is case sensitive).

I have also made a change to your account to prevent your website serving cached copies, just in case you were getting hit by that.

when I go into the code editor it asks me about the Encoding..I have no idea what that is? Is it UTF-8 or something else?
UTF-8 should be fine, but you can generally leave that dropdown at whatever it's set at by default.

Lastly the editor seems to be repeating or duplicating lines in my html. ( line 199 is repeated and then missing color codes or image code e.g.)
The Code Editor is the one that comes with cPanel, and I do admit it can be a bit strange at times. If you prefer, you can edit the code on your local computer instead. Using FTP with FileZilla might be easier to do this (since it allows you to edit files directly from the server).

Thank you,

Anna

Just want to add one thing, make sure you use the code editor rather then the html editor if you want to edit through cPanel rather then download/upload.

My bad....my apologies to John as I didnt remember emailing support outside the forum here.

My stuff is back up but I have to edit again. Also @@serennau22 I thank you as I did notice the links as you described but was too tired last night to do anymore editing.

Dead-i...the images like my background patterns and tiles are not showing in the webpages themselves. It was showing other patterns/tiles for my other webpages e.g.my home page has its own patterns/tiles and email/home buttons , and my tutorials page has its own patterns/tiles,home and email buttons.etc. I uploaded everything to their perspective folders via file manager.
They seem to be getting cluttered together. So I right click on the pattern I want to show on say my home page, and then click on edit or code edit and copy and paste the link or this : /home/xpressi4/public_html/home.png into the html. It will then show in the html editor and the preview page.I know you told me that I only needed to add it as "pattern3.jpg" but it won't show when I do that.It DID once but then it doesn't.
I'm so very unfamiliar with any FTP and have tried Filezilla with the help of one of my fellow x10 users but I am not sure what I'm doing wrong.I do exactly what I am asked to do and the files will sometimes go through but then Filezilla will disconnect.

Could you have a look William please at my files as they are now? John put them back but there are more than I had last night.I dont even know what their all for now.

Thanks again and again.

I am taking a break and will come back later on today, and try again.

Oh and the code editor is kind of ditzy. The lines get crunched together and it makes reading the code near impossible thats why I use the html editor.

I also have kompozer and HTML Tools but the codes are all different it seems with these old ones.

Thanks;

Jojo

Hi Jojo,

Good to hear your account was restored yesterday; so sorry about that.

I'm struggling to spot the problem you're referring to, unfortunately. Both your homepage and your "Tutorials2.html" page look to report no broken links or images in the browser. Which page is this affecting, and where specifically should I look?

Thank you,

This is very odd.Last night when I checked my home and tutorials pages nothing was showing up. I bookmarked my homepage and then before I went to sleep last night I checked again and it disappeared completely. I got a page that said: This domain is available or something like that.

NOW its back again. Its 3:15pm here in Canada ( eastern time). I seem to be having luck with the links one minute and then it just stops working.Could this be a browser problem? I use Chrome all the time.
I've also spoken to another Mod from the group I learned my HTML from and they still use X10 for teaching members to create their web pages. She also said some members now use Altervista? I tried them and they're even worse.

Back to your question Dead-i. I was saying that the links I use for background tiles/patterns and my email and home link buttons were not working. I have to use this path for all of them. example/xpressi4/public_html/home.png or example/xpressi4/public_html/pattern3.jpg

Now I opened my backup folder from x10 and the links are all duplicated within the html codes.
((I managed to correct it the best I could but you can see where links are dupicated among other things.))

Here is the bottom of my home page in code:

<br />
<br />
<a href="http://xpressionz13dezignz.x10host.com/Home/home.html" href="http://xpressionz13dezignz.x10host.com/Home/home.html"><img alt="home" border="0" data-cke-saved-src="home.png" src="home.png" /></a><br />

Nice designs in the previews section. They evoke a certain feel to it.

Your main page has a different website than the tutorial previews page.
http://xpressionz13.x10host.com/ is the one that says "DOMAIN DOES NOT EXIST"
http://xpressionz13dezignz.x10host.com/ is the main website.
Maybe you just got the domain name wrong.

Looking at your code above, maybe you could try to use tables for data presentation rather than for layout.
Good to learn up CSS for layouts.

Interesting to note that someone actually uses x10hosting to teach web designs tutorials.

I am still a bit rusty with HTML let alone using CSS. I am learning more though.

I have some of the pages up and running.Hopefully I do not run into anymore problems.
X10Hosting is just for teaching the group members how to upload their lessons in HTML via FTP and creating webpages.I used Ucoz for 2 years but ran out of room.May end up the same with X10.

Thanks for the advise jensen.
