I noticed in a new control panel a tick, that says something related to secure connections. I've toggled it twice, but didn't find, what changed. Does it have something to do with https? What is it?

If you need https, for SEO for example, you can use CloudFlare.
Cloudflare sadly will no longer work with x10 Hosting due to no app integration existing with DirectAdmin with no workaround. X10 would have to change the name servers for accounts and they are not doing that. The only people who can still use Cloudflare are the ones that had the prior integration left over.

Even at that it still isn’t secure as x10 does not give out SSL for free, traffic would only be encrypted between you and Cloudflare’s EDGE meaning traffic between Cloudflare and the origin server is still unencrypted.

It depends if you have your own domain or if you are using a x10 one. With your own domain, you can use cloudflare as you don't have to change the DNS in X10, but with your registrar.

It would still mean encryption would only stand between you and Cloudflare’s EDGE and not end to end.
