What is a 'robot' in the 'Members Online Now' section?

I assume 'member' is someone logged in, and a 'guest' is not logged in.

Space. About half is HTML or Javascript. And yes, I use Textpad.

How to tell if a hosting is really using SSD for their services?

It it were a paid host, there would probably be performance guarantees. But I'm not sure even then how to objectively evaluate throughput. They might be able to guarantee response / throughput rates for their own internet connection, but again, between that point and your test system there might...

    Account inactivity final warning.

Thanks. I have corrected the link in my 'favourites' that I had already set up to do just that. Like I said, the notification email was suspicious because: 1. The effective address did not match the one displayed within the <A> tag. (It was a MandrillApp addr.) 2. McAfee explicitely told me...

    Account inactivity final warning.

Update: Today I got the "suspended" notice on the website itself. But it was easy to re-activiate with the link it gave instead (i.e. the error page I got when I tried to go to my X10 website.) Suggestion: It is not clear that BOTH (1) logging in via FTP AND (2) Cpanel directly do not count as...

    Account inactivity final warning.

I did some more research, I'm pretty sure it was a scam, I posted a complaint at 'mailchimp'. What I really would like to know is how the scammer got the real email address I use with X10.

    Account inactivity final warning.

Is this message legitimate? My email software warned that it "May be a scam". It seems legit because the grammar is okay and the message is consistent with X10 terms and conditions. Also, the message was sent to the email address I use with x10, which I do not think is visible to non-admin users...

Their quota dated back to the days when ISPs would offer 5 or 10 meg of free space to set up a site. I don't think they ever upgraded their hardware, and only bothered to maintain it because a few commercial users used it and never wanted to bother updating their sites. (And new users would just...

I got by with 5 Mb for about 20 years, so the 512 Mb seems like oodles & oodles.

I'm still waiting to find out what the catch is. "Sooner or later when your big chances come, You'll look for the catches but there will be none." (I Robot / The Voice - Alan Parsons 1977)

I have always done my web site 'by hand'. For me it was all just an exercise to learn the technology, so I really did not want to hide any details. Also, at the time I started I was on an ISP that limited me to 5 Mb.

How to tell if a hosting is really using SSD for their services?

I'm not sure how you can tell. But I am curious to know why you consider the use of SSD to be important. For sure, it will be a heavy factor for performance on a local system. But on a system far away, total throughput will depend a lot on the performance of intermediate nodes.

The storage is 512MB, not unlimited

Thanks both for the clarification. I prefer using FileZilla FTP client for updates, so I'll need to remember to log in every month to the control panel. Do they send a warning with a few days grace to the email account first, or just delete the account automatically? BTW, I'm still waiting for...

Timing of the FTPed files to my site.

I had a similar problem with a different WSP a few years back. Turns out, one of their servers had a bad clock, and nobody bothered to resync it until asked. When it was 5 min slow, I had to wait 5 min for my new content, etc. Cache servers it the system needed to wait until new content was...

The storage is 512MB, not unlimited

Damn!! Why do I need to use a different FTP client every month? Seriously, to be clear, do I need to log in (i.e like to post here, etc.), or does an update of my web-site (via FTP) 'count' as my monthly access?

Interesting way of hosting for FREE

It's sort of like the gyms that sells lifetime memberships. They go belly-up, a new company buys up the lease, the equipment, and re-hires the staff. Same thing happens a few times and you notice that the owner / boss seem familiar.
