Quick question, is it possible to have an addon domain, yet keep a separate subdomain still hosted on (subdomain).x10hosting.com?

Could you please be more specific as to what you want to do exactly?

Go into cPanel for your x10 hosted (subdomain).x10hosting.com - and look for the menu item regarding Addon Domains and read the instructions.

If you are confident that this is what you want to do and you are now familiar with this tutorial's explanation of the procedures, then by all means have a go, as you can reverse this Addon Domain procedure again from within your cPanel.

Regards,
Rocky

well what i mean is this:

I have an addon domain name http://www.whsprojectcitizen.org/ which points to projectcitizen.sfc.x10hosting.com/

However, I still have another subdomain which I created in cpanel which I dont want to be on the addon domain. currently that domain is http://clans.sfc.x10hosting.com/ and points to a folder called 'worldcup' but it doesn't work and merely directs to http://www.whsprojectcitizen.org/

Is there some setting I need to fix to get things working properly?

Hello Kelvin and thanks for the detailed reply - it really does help in finding suitable solutions.

Please try and follow this comprehensive and complicated reply as it may take repeated reads to follow what I have suggested, especially with regard to the alternative configuration, as it will free up a sub-domain for future use.

If I have understood what you are trying to achieve then the following configurations may be what will solve your current 3 web site configuration dilemma - but the alternative configuration below is the preferred, if it suits your needs.

1. Main X10 Hosting domain as currently defined in your AMP:
sfc.x10hosting.com

Site Files:
public_html/index.html
(index file extensions may be wrong but use the correct index file extensions for your respective sites).

URI:
http://sfc.x10hosting.com/

Web Site Title:
Speed Forum Challenge

2. Addon Domain to your X10 Hosting's main domain - created in cPanel and uses up 1 sub-domain and 1 add-on domain from your allocation:
whsprojectcitizen.org

Site Files:
public_html/projectcitizen/index.php

URI:
http://www.whsprojectcitizen.org/

Web Site Title:
Project Citizen

3. Sub-domain of your main domain - created in cPanel:
(Is this duplication really needed now as it would seem to be a waste of an allotted sub-domain?).
projectcitizen.sfc.x10hosting.com

Site Files:
public_html/projectcitizen/index.php

URI:
http://projectcitizen.sfc.x10hosting.com/

Web Site Title:
Project Citizen (Duplicate)

4. Sub-domain of your main X10 Hosting's main domain - created in cPanel:
(See Note below for directory information).
clans.sfc.x10hosting.com

Site Files:
public_html/clans/index.php

URI:
http://clans.sfc.x10hosting.com/

Web Site Title:
World Cup Clan Site

The above configuration should just about use up all your allotted sub-domains and add-on domains in cPanel.

---------------------------------

An alternate configuration would be to follow this tutorial to replace the X10 Hosting main sub-domain with your owned domain - which in my opinion looks more professional and easier to remember the addresses.

Then just add your other sub-domains to your main owned domain, which will leave you with a spare sub-domain in cPanel.

1. Main X10 Hosting domain as defined in your AMP:
whsprojectcitizen.org

Site Files:
public_html/index.php

URI:
http://www.whsprojectcitizen.org/

Web Site Title:
Project Citizen

2. Sub-domain to your X10 Hosting's main domain - created in cPanel:
sfc.whsprojectcitizen.org

Site Files:
public_html/sfc/index.html

URI:
http://sfc.whsprojectcitizen.org/

Web Site Title:
Speed Forum Challenge

3. Sub-domain of your main X10 Hosting's main domain - created in cPanel:
clans.whsprojectcitizen.org

Site Files:
public_html/clans/index.php

URI:
http://clans.whsprojectcitizen.org/

Web Site Title:
World Cup Clan Site

Note:
If you want to use clans as a sub-domain then you will have to move the files from the worldcup directory to the cPanel created clans directory after creating the sub-domain, or alternatively you can create a subdomain called worldcup.

The above keeps it simple as you have only used 2 sub-domains of the 3 allotted and frees up a spare sub-domain for future use.

As you have discovered, it is not possible to add-on a domain to a sub-domain of your X10 Hosting's main sub-domain.

Also remember it may take up to 24 hours for any changes to your hosting configuration to filter down to the server and possibly longer to propagate the Internet DNS system.

I hope this will be of help to you.

Regards and good luck with your sites,
Rocky

Thanks for the detailed reply, but here are a few things that would make this not a really great option.

1. The Speed Forum Challenge site is obsolete as I moved it over to another host (had issues trying to move it X10 so I just gave up and decided to stick with my old host AwardSpace).

The reason why my chosen subdomain is sfc in the first place was because I intended to host my site here, but things didn't work out. I chose to host my other websites here instead and not waste a perfectly good host.

2. The clans subdomain currently hosts a group blog for a fantasy racing clan which I help manage.

3.The project citizen site is a another group blog for a school project, and is completely separate of the clans site. That is why I don't want the clans site to use the project citizen URL. Would it be better if I signed up for another X10 hosting account to host this or will I be breaking some rule by doing so? I'm not willing to shell out money for a domain for it so that is out of the question.
Edit:
Nevermind, seems like editing the config in wordpress to change the URL of the blog to the one I want seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the help anyway. :)

I've setup my site as soumikbhat.x10.mx and now want to use www.soumikbhat.com for this, a parked domain would do but I want www.soumikbhat.com to appear in the browser bar as well (instead of soumikbhat.x10.mx) in my site pages. Pls suggest a soln..And since I've already setup my site, I'm not willing to go for an addon domain as I'd have to shift all my files and database for that - which I'm not willing to do, so pls help...

So I had to post because this took me forever to figure out TWICE! Someone must be struggling on this as well.
Let's say you have a 10xhostingsite.com and you made a fancy web blog using wordpress.com. It's so awesome thatso you bought a professional domain at Godaddy or namecheap.com
You want your users to type in www.expensivedomain.com and get to your site: 10xhostingsite.com.

1. You need to go to godaddy or hosting website and change the nameservers. see above.
2. You should add a Parked Domain as www.expensivedomain.com

Now users can use www.expensivedomain.com and it goes to 10xhostingsite.com. Beautiful. But there is a problem: If users navigate to another subpage, you want them to see www.expensivedomain.com/firstpage.html not 10xhostingsite.com/firstpage.com.

3. Golden step is for you to go to your wordpress and change your General Settings. Change the website URL from 10xhostingsite.com to www.expensivehosting.com.

Now, everything works.

If this post helped you, let me know.
