    Hello,

The following announcement applies to users of our Free Hosting and Prime services.

Many users of our Free Hosting service have been wondering why they are getting "Authentication failed" messages when attempting to send mail via an external SMTP service such as gmail. We have configured our Free Hosting servers to block third party SMTP servers in an effort to stop abusive emails such as spam and phishing emails. By allowing external SMTP connections, such emails can be traced back to originating from x10Hosting's servers, which leads to x10Hosting's IPs being blocked by mail providers, which causes an even more severe email service disruption for many customers. As such, all attempts to connect to an external SMTP server are instead redirected to x10Hosting's internal SMTP server.

To send emails from your Free Hosting account, either make use of PHP's built-in mail() function, or log into our internal SMTP server with either your cPanel username/password or the username/password of an email account you created inside of cPanel. If you need more assistance with this, please open a support ticket in your Account Portal but remember that we cannot offer support for third-party programs and custom scripts, we can only assist you in ensuring the settings you are attempting to use are correct or checking if a particular email you are attempting to send is being blocked by our spam filters.

Please note that also, as always, you can try getting live support using our irc service.

This is accessible from the x10Hosting IRC website (link just below in my forums signature) then the Web Gateway link, or use your own irc software using the details available there.

Service depends on whether anyone is available, it is staffed by volunteer support staff and also other users like yourself, and the limiting factor is just whether anyone is online; please be patient and please try to make your first message as descriptive as possible :) (the number of times someone just says "hi I need help", goes away, then receives a reply just before disconnecting, etcetera...)

Please also note that if you're not getting an answer through the private support, you can join the public support channel (#x10hosting) where anyone can help you. (There's normally always an active user)
