Changing name of website problems

I had a website (site1.com) but wanted to make it better.

Then after 6 months I changed to a new domain name and redesigned it (web1.com)

i redirected site1.com -> web1.com

But will site1's backlinks transfer to web1?
And how do I "remove" site1.com from google?

Google Webmaster Tools. Verify that both of them are your websites. Then let google know by doing this.

site1.com > site configuration > change of address > Fill out the form so that your new address for site1.com is web1.com > Wait.

I don't know how the backlinks will work. I am new to that part. I manually go in and change any post or things where I created the backlink from.
