Exactly my point. I wouldn't have modded my PSP if I didn't like the interface. PS3 interface is derived from the PSP interface, so PSP hackers like I do not like the PS3 gui.

no,no,no,no... you modded you're psp because you wanted to play "free" *Coughh*pirated*Cough* games... lol..
And you call yourself a PSP hacker, I bet you can't even do anything without dark alex or noobz beside you...
and thats just you saying you don't like the interface, many... when i say many i mean like thousands/millions of ppl, likes it. The "general" consumers would rather have the same interface so they can move from one product to the next (from atleast the same company) without learning a new interface...

O and you can customize the interface without modding it (it would still use XMB but you can change the icons)...
Edit:
I am going to say Xbox 360 on this one. Many people argue that PS3 is better because it has WiFi built in, has a web browser, and a blue ray player.
Sure, it has a blue ray player, but will anyone buy blue ray movies at $30 ea? (My brother has about 50 of em :p) With WiFi, sure you can play, but that will most like lag you with 32 players or more. I am also saying Xbox 360 because of the games, if you are a big fan of Halo3, then you will like that. Many people disagree of Xbox 360 because it has RROD, but when was the last time someone got that?

Just my opinion, also the prices of the normal package of Xbox 360 will be dropping down, so I'd recommend getting it.

Have fun,
And good luck with whatever choice you choose,
TOM

Movies are not 30$ each anymore, when was the last time it was 30$?
Games are also on blu-ray yet it cost the same as 360 games (generally)?

32player lag on wi-fi? LOL .. yes that is why Resistance 2 is going to have 60 player multi-player online..
No one said you have to use wi-fi, you can still go with ethernet cable....

You can well say the same about PS3 games, if you like Final Fantasy, Socom, Ratcher and Clank, Jak and Daxter, etc etc etc...

And you don't think Sony will drop the price for the PS3?

Defend the interface all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that there are better ones out there like the 360s. It's standard look and Xbox Live integration make it ahead by miles.

PS3's interface is not bad it's just not the best.

Have you checked Walmart lately? Blu-Ray movies are in the $25-30 range.

Who knows? They already dropped the price 2 or 3 times already to actually compete.

Microsoft will most likely be announcing a price drop at E3 this year also.

360 interface is standard look? LOL describe to me what standard look is again...

360 interface is not the best either, because there are settings all over the place, messy and what not...

The max i saw was 25$ unless it is a trilogy, collectors, or some other type edition... most are like 15$-20$

still doesn't change the fact that games cost the same on PS3 (Blu-ray) and 360(DVD)...

A standard look means that it uses a uniform look for both the dashboard and the guide. The settings aren't all over the place either. They are in the "settings" tab.

And are you kidding me? Have you been out from under your rock? Most Blu-Ray movies cost in the 25-30 range. Don't believe me? Check your local stores more closely.

http://www.walmart.com/search/browse-ng.do?ic=20_0&ref=125868.414016+500000.500603

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...id&list=y&iht=n&st=processingtime:>1900-01-01

Also, if Blu-Rays cost the same as regular DVDs then why the hell are the prices almost double the cost of DVDs?

And why don't games even utilize the whole Blu-Ray discs if they are so special? 99% of games fit on a single dual layer DVD anyway.

ya standard look, xmb is standard look ermm uniform look, it's on psp, ps3 and sony bravia tvs...

If i have been living under a rock i would also be saying it is 30$....
ya for the walmart site you made it to show only 20-30$ priced blu-ray, of course it's gona be only 20-30$ LOL
don't know why you didn't do that for the bestbuy site...

Why is the cost of 360 double of xbox1? why is wii double the price of gamecube?

How can a medium be "special", sooo special that makes developers utilize the space? LOL...

That's why there are games on 360 that takes up 2+ dvds... Also MGS4 uses dual layered blu-ray (50gb).... few other games uses over 10gbs...

Over half of the movies on Blu-Ray are in the $25-30 range. The $15-20 ones are the very old movies from the 1950s or they are really bad. There's really no point in arguing that especially since you can't even support your claims.

Why is the cost of 360 double of xbox1? why is wii double the price of gamecube?

In the case of the Xbox 360 it has a lot of factors. Newer technology is obviously going to cost more to manufacture. Inflation is another part too. Our money isn't worth as much as it was when the original Xbox was released.

In the case of the Wii, Nintendo does minimal hardware upgrades which makes the cost of the Wii lower. This gives them a huge profit margin. They are basically selling GameCubes for $250.

The only games that uses more than one discs are Lost Oddssey and Blue Dragon. That's it. The reason they do take up that much space is mainly due to the FMVs. It doesn't take away from the experience at all.

Most games do not exceed 6 gigs by the way.

PS3 is the best of course! The price is reasonable for the almost unlimited amount of features it has so i think it's really worth it, have a look at this review I found on ITReviews -

To be fair to Sony, the actual hardware was never really going to be in much doubt. And after your first few hours in the company of the PlayStation 3, you're likely to be impressed.

Several initial thoughts went through this reviewer's head. Firstly, the machine's really quite heavy. Secondly, aesthetically, it's really quite smart. And thirdly, and surprisingly, is that given the immense processing grunt under its glossy, buffed-up exterior, it's very quiet in operation. It certainly puts the Xbox 360 in the shade in that department.

When we switched on for the first time, following as simple a connection procedure as you'd expect with a games console, we signed up for the PlayStation Network and downloaded an advised, albeit not compulsory, update. This involved us getting the machine online, which was thankfully straightforward. A built-in wireless receiver or the Ethernet port at the back are your two choices, and we tried both, finding the machine adapted to either at breakneck speed.

The download and application of the upgrade took care of the first five minutes or so, but eventually we got to spend some time with the browser interface. This bears striking similarities to the one Sony employed with the PSP, and given that the two machines have a degree of interoperability, that's perhaps unsurprising.

It was interesting to note, going through the menu, just how Sony has made it easy to support elements you'd usually not expect it to be so welcoming of. The option for an OS install took us aback, and we were pleased to see the Folding@Home client built in too. But on top of that, the likes of keyboards, mice, Web-cams and such like - all of which can hook up via the assorted USB ports - are very easy to add.

Media support is well-rounded, too. That 60GB hard drive inside the machine can be filled with music files, for instance, and several codecs are supported. Likewise, there's Blu-ray and DVD playback. The former - the reason why the machine is so over deadline and so over budget - actually turns out to be a bit of a trump card. While we've not had the pleasure of many Blu-ray players, we're informed by colleagues who have that the PS3 is one of the finest, if not the very best, Blu-ray disc playback device on the market, to the point where many are picking up the PS3 for precisely that reason, rather than for its gaming prowess. It's aided - again, for the time being scoring a point over its Microsoft-produced rival - by the native inclusion of HDMI, meaning full 1080p output is well within the realms of the console (a new model of the Xbox 360 is expected to add this feature shortly).

The games, which ultimately will be the biggest influence in the rise or fall of the machine, we'll look at in a separate review. But there's little doubt that the PS3 is capable of some incredibly impressive-looking games. There's no obvious outright classic available as this review was written, nor a clear one on the horizon, but Sony's track record should ensure that the shortage isn't a long-term one. There's also, of course, Sony's equivalent to Xbox Live Arcade, whereby games can be bought and downloaded onto the console online. A free game was available at launch and you can expect lots more, for sub-£10 price tags, in the future.

But there are still problems here, and they break down into price, the competition and backwards compatibility. In reverse order, then, the European model has been compromised slightly and the hardware that allowed support for PSOne and PS2 games has been cut back. As a result, software emulation is doing more of the work, and it renders a massive chunk of the Playstation back catalogue incompatible at this point in time. Given the price premium Europeans are paying, we find this a complete and utter disgrace.

Furthermore, for the same money as the PlayStation 3 goes for, a gamer could pick up both a Wii and an Xbox 360, and arguably they'd get better value that way. £425 for a games console is, in the modern era, unacceptable, and ironically the only people who will initially get real value from it are the aforementioned Blu-ray player customers. Gamers aren't getting the best end of the deal.

So it all leads to point one: price. £425 is a massive price tag and one that, while the hardware may justify, the competition makes a mockery of. Sony is, infamously, making a heavy loss on each unit sold at the moment too, which may yet tie its hands for future price cuts, and that leaves the PlayStation 3 in a very weak place. The machine is genuinely excellent and in many ways it's better than the Xbox 360. But it's not got enough up its sleeve to justify a £150 price premium.

And that's not all, it has a new feature coming out soon which will beat all other consoles, it is known as Home.

One of the most exciting announcements at Game Developers Conference 2007 was Home, an exciting new network community that's exclusive to PLAYSTATION 3.

Taking to the stage at this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC), Phil Harrison - the head of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios - spoke about his vision for 'Game 3.0' - a new era of connected network gaming in which community and user-generated content play a huge part.
In addition to the announcement of LittleBigPlanet, Harrison unveiled Home, a new online, 3D networked community available exclusively on PS3 via the PLAYSTATION® Network.

In Home, PS3 users will be able to create their own unique avatar, and interact with others in a variety of spaces, designed to make the PlayStation community a more involving place than ever before. Fitting seamlessly into the PS3 experience, Home will be made available as a free download from the PLAYSTATION® Store, and can be launched directly from the Home Menu on PS3.

Community service

Home offers a sleek, modern environment to explore, with a wealth of community features that are set to enhance and expand the boundaries of digital entertainment. In addition to socialising in spacious common areas, users can design and build their own personal apartments, or houses, allowing users to customise their own space with a wealth of different items. It's even possible to show off personal video, pictures and other digital media stored on the PS3 Hard Disk Drive within your own space, before inviting others to enjoy the tasteful decor and carefully considered ambiance.

However you decide to set up Home, rich cmmunication options make it easy to mix with others. There will also be spaces dedicated to specific games, where fans can meet and discuss their favourites, or see the latest trailers in a uniquely communal setting. And when you're ready, get together and launch your favourite game for a multiplayer session.

A uniquely social place, there's no place like Home. Check for updates on this exciting new community in the coming months.

Have a look at the images and gallery here - http://ae.playstation.com/ps3/news/go-home-with-ps3/index.html.

Do you think it's worth it now? ;)

I didn't contradict anything. Sony has there own design and look to how they feel it should be. They made it work cross platform which is fine, but it's still not the best design for a console.

So then why are you arguing about the price of movies when you agree with me? They do cost a lot more than DVDs.

You don't lose much except extra bytes in files. In the case of audio most of the compression is unnoticeable to a human ear, unless of course it's compressed to complete crap.

There are also the other extremes like Heavenly Sword, which used a full 20 gig disc, where they decide to not compress anything for the sake of space usage. A 6 hour game taking up a full 20 gig disc isn't a way to utilize a blu-ray disc imo.

Space would also be an issue if Microsoft didn't allow disc swaping, but they do. So even if there is multiple discs in future games toward the end of the 360s life cycle would it really matter?

What?!??! Does the GameCube have Wi-Fi, online play, motion sensitivity, and do its controllers act as a pointing device? No. Why would people pay so much more for a product that's $150 less and why is the Wii selling so well? Nintendo has made serious advances since the GameCube. The GC is not-so awesome. The Wii is awesome.
Now how have the PlayStation and Xbox changed over the past generations? Their only improvement have been in their graphical capability. That's all.

The Wiis hardware is barely better than the original Xbox. It uses many of the same parts as the GameCube. So yes, it's pretty much a GameCube with motion controls.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 are huge improvements over there prior counter parts. They are true next generation consoles unlike the Wii which still uses last generation technology.

I wouldn't call it last generation technology...

But I would say the Wii is a really successfull fad.. seriously... people only buy it because
A) they are nintendo fans and like mario, zelda and all those Nintendo games
B) they see one of their friends have it and looks like fun/ is fun
C) they are poor and their children wants a next gen console

both B and C users stop playing Wii after a month... and let it sit in their entertainment shelves....
Even granparents have Wiis....

Stop backing off the attacking the xbox 360, and start attacking the wii just because you have no other negativities for the xbox.

If you haven't read the title it's PS3 v XBOX 360. Please stay on topic.

And as for your post about me being a psp mod noob. No I am not a noob. I don't use the illegal emulators and things like that. I make my programs out of this custom linux i installed on my PSP and I use my PSP to be a remote using it's IR port. etc.,

And as for the XBOX v PS3,
Although the games may be the same price you have to take into the factor that Blu Ray loads slower than DVD/HDDVD, it's just common sense that the Disk Drive
takes more time reading Blu Ray, cause it has more capacity, so that means the XBOX(360) will be faster at loading games than PS3.

Compression is more than just compressing audio...

A full disc would be 25gb not 20gb. Non-compression is always better than compressed...so might as well use what ever space allows for. It also included multiple languages if I'm not mistaken.

I remember when microsoft said HDMI wasn't neccessary. then a few months later they bring out the 360 elite with hdmi and paint it black... (lol trying to copy ps3?) any ways, having multiple disc is so last last generation (PS1) and it is still a hassle. Some games are restricted by having multi-dics, take for an example a sand box type game, would be a pain in the arse for developers to have it in multi-discs and also pain in the arse for gamers to keep switching disc to go from one place to another...

Partially Wrong...
DVDs are Constant Angular Velocity (CAV) and Blu-rays are Constant Linear Velocity (CLV). Which means that DVD transfer rate changes going from outer to inner of the disc... while Blu-ray has a constant speed rather if it is reading from outer or inner of the disc...
Since data written on a disc goes from inner to outer the max. transfer rate is rarely realized on a DVD...
for example a The maximum read speed on a half full DVD on a 12x drive is only 12MBps compared to the drives maximum of 16.5 MBps...
At a 2x Blu-ray drive can read as fast as 12x DVD minimum read speed.

At a 3x Blu-ray is comparable to DVD at 12x thru the first half of the disc(outer) and 3x blu-ray is faster on the second half of 12x DVD(inner)
At a 4x blu-ray beats a 12x DVD maximum read speed...

Forgot to mention 360 DVD drive is loud as hell...
compared to a PS3.. PS3 is silent as a dead man....

If you're tired of arguing then why even post in the first place? This whole thread is Xbox vs PS, it's meant to be an argument....

Anyway, in comparison to DVDs, Blu-Rays are a lot more expensive. Given it's a new technology, it still doesn't justify the price point especially with such a minimal upgrade over the DVD counter parts. Excluding the interactive discs which may be a better incentive, depending on the movie of course.

Compression is more than just compressing audio...

And I never said it was.

A full disc would be 25gb not 20gb. Non-compression is always better than compressed...so might as well use what ever space allows for. It also included multiple languages if I'm not mistaken.

Not really. It all depends on the type of compression and the files that are compressed. Also, less data to read means faster loading times, although it would most likely be unnoticeable in either instance.

I remember when microsoft said HDMI wasn't neccessary. then a few months later they bring out the 360 elite with hdmi and paint it black... (lol trying to copy ps3?)

HDMI is now standard in all models of the 360, since it is the future standard especially for movies. It was the logical choice since HDMI is replacing component cables.

any ways, having multiple disc is so last last generation (PS1) and it is still a hassle. Some games are restricted by having multi-dics, take for an example a sand box type game, would be a pain in the arse for developers to have it in multi-discs and also pain in the arse for gamers to keep switching disc to go from one place to another...

Most games aren't free roaming games. The free roaming games like GTA aren't having much trouble at all fitting on a single DVD either. So I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting for a sandbox game to make you switch discs. Most games that will have multiple discs will be JRPGs.

Everything else will have no problems what so ever.

Joystiq:

Overall, we know that the Xbox 360 drive reads data faster than PS3's. While the Blu-ray drive might consistently read data at the same speed, the 360 drive is faster at reading data on the outer layers of the DVD disc; and that's were devs tend to put the biggest files.

HDMI is now standard in all models of the 360, since it is the future standard especially for movies. It was the logical choice since HDMI is replacing component cables.

Edit:

Joystiq:

Overall, we know that the Xbox 360 drive reads data faster than PS3's. While the Blu-ray drive might consistently read data at the same speed, the 360 drive is faster at reading data on the outer layers of the DVD disc; and that's were devs tend to put the biggest files.

This is why i don't really like microsoft, they don't think ahead into the future... i remember when bill gate said xxxkb was all they need for the next x years, forgot the numbers but man was he wrong...

Rockstar says differently....

you missed the last part i edited...

"Forgot to mention 360 DVD drive is loud as hell...
compared to a PS3.. PS3 is silent as a dead man...."
Edit:
Stop backing off the attacking the xbox 360, and start attacking the wii just because you have no other negativities for the xbox.

If you haven't read the title it's PS3 v XBOX 360. Please stay on topic.

.....

I'm not attacking anything, im only discussing... lol, stop "defending" just because you have no other negatives for PS3...

The topic clearly says PS3 OR XBOX 360 not PS3 v XBOX 360
and wasn't it you who started saying how you didn't like psp interface, which is also off topic... stop being a hypocrite...

Because in 2006 everyone knew HDMI was going to be the next standard, right?

If they had such a problem with it then they obviously over looked the fact that the game doesn't even take up a whole DVD.

So what does this have to do with drive speed?

PS3 was suppose to launch in spring of 2006 but because blu-ray wasn't finalized, it was delayed...Also the 360 was rushed...

what are you talking about? you're making it sound like rockstar wasn't the one that devlope the game.. obviously they took out some stuff and what not, to fit onto dvd... like you said compression... =/

nothing really, just saying 360 dvd is really loud... another reason why you know the 360 was rushed... The other reason you know it was rushed was because of overheating and major design flaw... yes Microsoft exnted the warranty to 3 years if you got RROD, it was either that or they face class action lawsuit and lose even more $$... and would have to recall all 360's... Though, they improved it now...
